As part of my Christmas "loot", this book by Barry Cunliffe was eagerly seized upon to read.
I'm about 75% through & am most impressed by it.
For those who don't know it, it provides an overview of the inhabitants of Britain from the beginning to late Saxon days.
Overviews can often be superficial. This one isn't.
It uses the latest archaeological finds & interpretations to make its points. Added to this is the results from various DNA & other genetic materials, climatology, forensics etc
I've found it excellent in "putting the pieces" together in terms of understanding trends & putting individual items in a broader pattern.
I really liked Cunliffe's understanding of the "Beaker package" & his theory about the origins of Celtic languages is thought-provoking.
Definitely worth reading.
