I was hoping to get a relatively cheap toy Cthulhu to lead my Of Gods and Mortals army… does anyone know of a plastic Cthulhu costing under £15.00 GBP, preferably of a size to at least upset 28mm mortals?

Some of the Monsterpocalypse monster models might work. One of the factions is Cthulhu based, and the large monsters stand about 3+ inches tall.

If you're willing to spend a little more, the Reaper Bones Cthulhu would be excellent.

A few moderate-to-medium-largish sized reaper Cthulu options.

The ginormous Reaper big Cthulu

costs 40USD, but on ebay they regularly go for about 30 USD or less, which (except for terrible shipping rates) is about 15 GBP.

better than that, I consider it superior to the FAR more expensice CLIX Cthulhu…

The clix (noticeably "gussied up")

Go to your local toy store and grab a toad, a squid, and a bat. Hack, slash, glue. The foam/latex ones will take to toothpicks as spikes fairly easily. The frog and bat head will make nice statuary for such an environment, as well.

Question for Big Nick R: Do you have a side-by-side comparison photo of the two Cthulhu models? Is the Bones model as large as the Clix model?

Why do models of Cthulu always look pregnant, or have been hitting the Budweiser a little to hard.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut29 Dec 2013 11:54 a.m. PST

I believe the word "bloated" was used in the original description.

TwinMirror29 Dec 2013 11:58 a.m. PST

etotheipi, by coincidence, today at the zoology museum I picked up a toy octopus and toad for just this purpose! No bat to be found, but I think i can carve up some a toy butterfly's wings to achieve the desired affect…

Khurasans 'Octopus God', nominally 15mm but still fairly formidable when up against 28mm figures. Will set you back $30 USD US.

Constipated from eating worlds?

Manflesh29 Dec 2013 5:57 p.m. PST

"Flabby" was also in there too I believe. Not to mention tht the first thing Cthulhu does on the occasion when he does wake up is eat the nearest sailors.

the clix one is "16" inches tall (wings) but I'd guess about 10-10.5 to the head. The reaper one us about an inch-inch and a half shorter to the head with smaller thicker wings.

BigNickR29 Dec 2013 9:15 p.m. PST

I don't have a side-by-side, my FLGS sold it's Clix one last year/earlier this year for what I thought THEN was an insane $200 USD

The guy that bought it compared it to the reaper one when we got it in stock there. He was slightly peeved when he saw the $40 USD on what he considered an "almost as good" product.

He revised his opinion and bought a bones one when he saw it painted up

With all that time waiting for the stars to align he has nothing to do but watch daytime TV and snack. Not sure how much room is in the undersea tomb to do cardio, but yeah his cholesterol counts are probably a bit off.

How tall is the Reaper one?

Whitwort Stormbringer14 Jan 2014 3:13 p.m. PST

I'm actually a fan of the Clix model over the Bones version – I'm not into the proportions or the tail on the Reaper model, for some reason. Personal taste and all that.

Of course, other than the nutty price due to it's collector status, the integral base (in which Cthulu is partially submerged) is obviously a downside to that one for gaming purposes, outside of the clix game it's meant for.

I think both are probably larger than what you're looking for, for an OGAM warband, though, since those seem to mostly be avatars of the deity in question, so are only a bit larger than normal humans (40mm-ish minis, in the case of the official figures, right?).
