That is cool as hell! You're killing me; I just place a huge order of new toys, spent enough money for enough lead to keep me busy all year, and now you post this. What a cool idea.
Sorry, If I had only known. LOL
Obviously I've started pretty small, 8-10 man squads and a little support. I will be adding more factions and more guys for each faction eventually, I hope. Shouldn't be to hard to squeeze a couple of extra squads in there somewhere.
I hear about this kind of stuff quite a bit, but I guess I figured it was some sort of rehash of Blue vs Gray, but this communist/fascist/republican etc
is pretty doggone cool, and has got my little hamster spinning the wheel of my mind.
Nope, the American Civil War has been hashed no need to rehash it again with tanks and planes. Nor do I have any desire to redo the wild west. I have one cowboy, that will be it, and the Indians will dress like everyone else. I've really tried to stay away from anything even remotely resembling a North vs. South conflict. In the VACW things should focus very much on the local reaction, and incorporating local history, within the larger context of the disintegration of Federal authority.
I do have a question regarding your background; do you have/plan anything with regard to the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere?" Maybe the Japanese make a landing on the Left Coast to 'help' restore order?
There are a great many possibilities for this conflict which is why I dig it. You can do whatever you like. My own personal vision of this imaginary war would follow the same basic pattern as WW2. That is, I would break it up into Early War, Mid War, and Late War. Personally I would prefer the Early War aspect. Lots of local militias and such and not much in the way of standardized vehicles, but people using and modifying whatever is on hand. Lots of Rube Goldberg armored vehicles and the like. Skirmishes on a very local level, involving local groups. Some possibly with larger national ties, but with little coordinated action. Of course the Black Legion, and Federal forces being an exception to that.
Mid War sees the consolidation of power and strongholds for the various factions. i.e. The Communists manage to take Seattle and start importing Soviet weapons and churning out locally made stuff too. However, they still face stiff opposition outside of their stronghold.
Late War would see more organized military actions and more tanks, planes etc. The commies get uniforms, stuff like that.
I had thought about using the Japanese. They would probably jump at the chance to take the Philippines, Hawaii, and other Pacific territories held by the US, who would be able to little to fend them off. Mostly it would just be fluff. For the late war though I thought about having MacArthur on the ropes and making a deal with Japs to have them land in California to fight the communists while he dealt with FDR on the east coast. In return he would let them have Hawaii and the other territories without reprisal, plus access to the California oil supplies. However, I decided only really wanted to do early war stuff so I stopped writing the timeline, now who knows what the future holds?
I joined your blog, and look forward to seeing more batreps. Take care.
Cool, well I hope I can keep you entertained.
I like that it's in Tulsa Oklahoma. My Dad's family is from Enid and Mom's from Geary. So my Grand Fathers would be fighting in this.
I have lived there for the last few years and was planning on running the campaign at a local game store with a few friends that I got interested in the idea. However, I rather unexpectedly had to move temporarily. I was tired of putting off the campaign, so I decided to play out a few games with my son until we move back there and I can get things going there with my friends.
The first AAR the skirmish at 31st and Sheridan is an inside joke. It is the intersection were the game store I frequent in Tulsa is located.
I also have family in Oklahoma from this time period as well, Guthrie, Shawnee, Kaw.
