I have recently started a Roman army from Warlord games. I plan to use it for Hail Caesar. I was just wondering who else makes Romans that work well with Warlords. I just want to mix in a few others to break up the uniformity of the army. On a whim I did just order some Aventine command packs. After ordering them I thought what if they do not mix well….thus the question.

Which of their Roman ranges are you using – late republican or early imperial one?

rhacelt26 Dec 2013 7:32 a.m. PST

Sorry, early imperial.

If you go to the Lead Adventure forum and take a look at "Age of Gods myths and Empires" the is a comparison link right at the top.

The earlier foundry range and Old Glory will mix nicely with them.

rhacelt, Aventine will be big!!! I would use Foundry EIR . They should fit well with Warlord. Also you could try 1st Corps or Newline. They might work also. Cheers Mike Adams

Aventine really are the bees knees though. Make we want to come back to 28mm Ancients in a really bad way. Too bad I would lack opponents since almost all play 15mm around these parts.

Warlord's EIR Romans don't even go with each other! The legionaries are a completely different size to the auxiliaries. But, yes, the early Foundry ones match best.

The Warlord metal auxilia are a good match for Foundry Perry, but their legionaries are rather smaller. The auxiliary centurion above is Foundry and the others Warlord.

Thanks guys. If you order foundry how do you know if it is early(perry) or late?

From the best I can tell, on this page:

The collection listed as Imperial Roman Army is the new stuff and the others, the ones with just "Imperial Roman" at the top are the old ones.

Yes what Pictor said. The Imperial Roman Army are the larger Steve Saleh sculpts. All the others are Perry.

Thanks again guys. I just ordered ten packs. I will try and make mostly separate units with them with maybe a few mixed in to the odd unit. My goal is to have a full army built and painted by Easter…..wish me luck!!
