Decals, me thinks.

CraigH24 Dec 2013 12:19 p.m. PST

Am I the only one that thinks those tattoos are decals ?

Look at the photo of her back – you can see the outline of the decal. Plus, given that the ends of her hair are skin-coloured, the painter wouldn't appear to have the skill to pull of that brushwork in the tattoos if he can't keep paint out of her hair.

John the Greater24 Dec 2013 12:23 p.m. PST

I have to concur, the tats are decals. The paint job is about C+. Interesting concept executed passably at best.

Tin hat24 Dec 2013 1:15 p.m. PST

Definitely decals based on the skill of the rest of the paint job.

I thought the figure wasn't finished that's why there was paint on the hair ! Are those really green nipples?

My opinion of the whole -pretty poor actually.

Kinky!

Maddaz11124 Dec 2013 6:22 p.m. PST

Think it's not finished… but if it's decals it is good use of them.

Tango0124 Dec 2013 11:49 p.m. PST

I don't take note about the decals.

average, at best.

The article says (well, implies) he painted the tats with acrylics. It also says he tried to cover them with something to soften the lines (make them less sharp – I didn't quite grok all of that), which may make the color difference that looks like a decal edge. The way it is written, this is obviously a WIP, and meant to show what he calls the "limit of what I can do" in making the tats, not to show off a completed project.

Beowulf Fezian26 Dec 2013 6:13 a.m. PST

I think that is a work in progress. The hair has not been painted yet.

Tin hat26 Dec 2013 11:35 a.m. PST

The skin and face have though and that's very basic apart from a weird green tint. Strange why you would post a figure not finished

Tango0126 Dec 2013 11:48 a.m. PST

Yes, it's a wip my friend.
What confuse me is… are the tattoos painted or decalls?

If you go over the site, you'll find earlier WIPs that would seem to indicate the tattoos are indeed freehand, like here:

Based on other figs, it looks like the guy is not really big on shading, which becomes a noticable proble on a large-scale nude.

Many thanks for your guidance my friend.
