One thing that is missing from the game is banners and their effects.

I have been playing with a simple house rule, and I kind of like it so far.

UNIT BANNER: A unit banner is for a single unit. It improves morale by 1 (Like a leader with +1 Charisma). However, if a unit is in combat, and it looses more figures than the opposing unit (In a single turn), it risks losing the banner. If that happens, simply roll a D10. If the number is UNDER the total number of figs lost in that round, then the banner has fallen. The unit must make a morale test at -2.

ARMY BANNER: (This is only used if you use leaders). This banner will alway accompany the army commander. It gives him a +1 to his Charisma.

ARMY MUSICIAN: (also only used with leaders). The army musician will increase the command distance of the leader by 1.5 times.

The 2nd Ed. RPG rule book, Tome of Magic, had 2nd Ed. BattleSystem rules additions in it, both in spells made for BS games, as well as magical devices, mostly magical banners. I don't remember if the 2nd Ed. book had banner rules or not. Excellent additions if it didn't! I know it did not have rules for musicians. Love your house rules, though. Cheers!

I use banner and musician rules when playing 1st edition. I also gave a morale bonus for musicians.

Do you happen to know what the first edition banner rules were?

Nice house rules Landorl.

At various times we have used magic banners with units, sometimes borrowing effects from earlier editions of WFB. I think one was called the Banner of Wrath and it could discharge lightning bolts once or twice per battle.

Most of the time we just include banners and musicians for visual effect and keep them in the unit until it's down to it's last couple of figures.
