We finally had an opportunity to complete our Somewhere in Normandy scenario begun about a month ago. December proved to be a busy month! This small non-historical scenario is played in 20mm using Battlefront WWII rules. The full AAR can be seen here: link Here are a few pictures from the action.
And spoiler alert:

Thanks, Grey Panda. I try my best but it doesn't come close to your terrain artistry! |

I look at your photos Bill and it really reminds me of walking through the fields of Ireland. The houses are incredibly realistic too. Please keep them coming. Its hard to find the time I know. I've never played the battlefront rules but you seem to enjoy them
do you know are they similar to the Battlegroup series? |

And I've never payed the Battlegroup rules so I'm not sure. My sense is that they are quite different from the AAR's I've read. Battlefront WWII has about a 3 to 1 ratio for vehicles, and figure stands generally represent a section. Play mostly runs from company to battalion level. What I like about these rules is they seem to give quite realistic results – historic tactics and good strategy are generally rewarded and the narrative of the game seems to make sense. Although the mechanics of play are relatively simple in some respects (a card for each unit has all the information needed) there are a lot of rules and it takes newcomers a while before they grasp some of the intricacies. But what I especially like about the rules is that players themselves have contributed greatly to their development through optional rules and a host of very well researched scenarios, all offered for free on the site. |
