The Army puts in a lot of time and budget to take real countries and "make them fake"
We would not ever want to offend the political sensibilities of a few nations would we?
The Warfighter exercise are variants on the Atropia scenario

the Big scenario (aka the Caspain Sea scenario) – Atropia, Ariana, Minaria, Donovia, and Gorgas

Use google – terms Atropia road to war brief (PPT download)

This scenario and variants are going on at all levels of the Army from cadetts to division commands and the pentagon as part of identified shortcomings on how to deal with other nations….in conventional war situations…with a small insurgency subset…lol

No, never.

Once again, ceding a chance for a psychological advantage to our enemies.

The way politics works, our enemies today will be our allies tomorrow (and vice versa).

Might as well not antagonize our (future) allies.

We've always been at war with Atropia. Laropia has always been our ally.

By the way, Minaria is the setting for the classic fantasy wargame "Divine Right." I wouldn't fancy invading Minaria, since the undead forces of the Black Hand would be fierce opponents.

How about Chernarus??

What I found amusing was at ILE (formerly Command and General Staff College), we called them by their proper names and all when we did our work. But at the WARFIGHTER exercises, the FT Leavenworth people take themselves SOOOOOO seriously about fake names and a fake war.

Meh.

You _LIE_ Darthfozzywig! Atropia has always been our ally! Laropia is our mortal enemy since 1949! Report to Room 101 at the Ministry of Love!
BTW, the chocolate ration has been doubled to 3 grams from 10 this week!
We love Big Sister! Long Live Big Sister!

epturner – You are sooo right. Yes TRADOC and FT Leavenworth, – how to fight yesterday's war by rules for tomorrow without innovation…
