Very nice figures.

"command base's" what? Or do you mean bases? Of course you do. Plurals don't need apostrophes.

Tremendous website, beautiful figures but please, please correct all the terrible punctuation.

Sorry to be such a pedant.

And its hodden grey not hidden grey.

Roy stunning figures and standard! From which publication is the pic of the standard from?

Many thanks

fellas glad you enjoy

Marcus – Walter sent me the image – he says he'll send the info later :-)

1ngram – we know its hodden – the auto-spell corrects it – as for the apostrophes – the idea of you spluttering into your cornflakes gives me no end of fun – lighten up – I do this in my spare time at 100 miles and hour when I'm not editing papers for peer reviewed journals

Marcus,

Flag info from "English Emblem Tradition: Emblematic Flag Devices of the English Civil Wars, 1642-60 v. 3 (Index Emblematicus)" by Alan R Young.

If you keep a eye out you can sometimes get this for a steal. Its a weighty tome full of flag pics and descriptions. Great for researching actual colours or as endless inspiration for speculative colours.

All the best

I'm too old to splutter.

I spend a lot of time myself editing/correcting academic papers whose readers deserve correct english. What a low opinion of an academic paper – and author- they would get if the paper was full of incoherent apostrophes! Surely your many readers deserve better as well?

Very good and very interesting about Sir John Hurry. I also read about him in Nigel Tranter's Marquis of Montrose books.

I was not aware of his own flag and I like very much your representation of it.

Thanks for sharing this information.

Seriously, I would like to see a mini-documentary about your Project Auldearn. It's been totally absorbing.
