Wonder how the Fulmar's would have performed against the Japanese twin engined bombers. The Fulmar was kind of lacking in the performance department, although fairly well armed. Would not want to be the British if Zero's showed up. |

I would assume over all adding the HMS Formidable to Force Z there would be little hope of changing the results of its demise. And sorry for the spelling mistake. |

Fulmars did very nicely against Italian medium and torpedo bombers. No reason to think they'd do any worse against unescorted Japanese ones |

It would not of take the Japanese army long to provide escorts. Oscars vs Fulmars would be ugly. |

Would Oscars have had the range? |

The IJA wasn't very much given to co-operating with the IJN, so that's not a given. And, at least according to this link the first Oscars only arrived in theatre just prior to the beginning of the war. Strengths listed here link (note 2) |

Leaving aside the issue of fighter defence, the Albacore sqn almost certainly would have had a few ASV equipped aircraft on strength, which raises the possibility of a night torpedo strike against the Japanese invasion fleet. Probably not a game changer, but
