I'm looking for some fantasy rpg for my kids, ages 11 and 13. I think they would love it. However, I'm going to hate handing out treasure. I love being a GM, adore making the stories come to life, have done it for 30 years. But I hate figuring out what everyone gets every single adventure. It kills some of the fun. "What's in the chest?!" Oh, that's right, I already know.
What I really want is a big book of random treasures, something that can take all of that right out of my hands. Kill the bandits attacking the priest's caravan? Roll twice on chart 14. Do a favor for a rich noble and he sends you a reward? Roll once on chart 27A. See? Then I don't even know! This has to exist already, right? I've seen some random treasure charts, but they are really thin. Like a page. Pathetic. I don't care what system I end up playing as long as the rewards are random.
Ideas?

B/X D&D is great for that. Each monster type has a treasure type with a random table for % chances of random gems (is it worth 1gp, or 1000gp?), magic items, etc.

PDFs are for sale at drivethrurpg.com as well. Highly recommended, and easily accessible for 11+ year olds.

There is a product (made for the original Basic Set in the 70's and updated for the 80's basic set) called "Monster and Treasure Assortments. It has 100 monster entries and 100 treasure entries for each dungeon level from 1 through 9. I think it is still available as a PDF from DriveThru.

I've used it for decades and is an excellent quick tool for handing out level-appropriate treasure.

nothing will ever beat the old Encyclopedia Magica ( link )

4 books of EVERY magical item ever published up to that point (1994/5) in any D&D book or setting. with the 4th book having a MASSIVE random table to implement the books.

It's only 2nd edition, but modifying the items to other systems has never been that difficult for me.

Or generate treasures by type and make a bunch of 3x5 cards. Ie in old ad&d say bandits are treasure type c roll maybe 20 c type treasures and then after the party kills the bandits randomly pick a card. Or just cop out and say the bandits have 5 gp each and a short sword and then maybe draw a card that gives them 3 healing potions and a double of gems

Also, this treasure generator: donjon.bin.sh/adnd/treasure

I've got a couple little charts that I cribbed off the internet for this very purpose. And they're pretty flavorful too! Not just your typical "2 gems, 100gp each" boring stuff.

Warwick, pm me your email and I'll send them your way.

Patrick, I don't see how to do that.
