We have just gotten all of the 28mm Valonians back in stock with the new molds, conversions, ect. As many of you know, this was the old Starship Troopers line.
We have had a bunch of questions lately about some sort of power armor for this faction to go up against the Cougar suits and Grizzlies(to be renamed of course)of the human faction. Do you think the Aliens should have Power armor? What would you like to see? Here is the link to the Valonians(old Skinnies) now: link Here is what the Skinnies had as power armor in the game(THIS was a prototype, not released)
Thoughts? RebelMike RebelMinis.com |

Pretty cool Could that power armor..w a weapon swap fit 15mm? |
Rebel Minis | 17 Dec 2013 7:15 a.m. PST |
Hmmm, it might. The old SST Grizzly works pretty well in 15mm as well as 28mm.. something to think about

That's cool. I'd sign up for two (of the Skinnies shown above) for my SST stuff

Do you think the Aliens should have Power armor? You mean those hardsuits aren't powered exoskeletons? I'm not really taken with the prototype 'powered armor'. I've seen much better 'energy shield' things done with either etched acrylic, resin, or even injection-molded parts. I guess the real question is how do you see the Valonians operating? Humans with a different build? I'd go with a heavy suit like the Griz/Cougar. 'elves' in the classic low-population guerrillas? something lighter and sleeker than the Griz, but still providing good protection. |
Rebel Minis | 17 Dec 2013 10:42 a.m. PST |
Yes, we are remolding them and we might cast the bodies in resin/plastic to make them more affordable
|
Rebel Minis | 17 Dec 2013 11:17 a.m. PST |
Hmm, I guess the power suit for those guys would be more like an exo-skeleton. We could do the side shields in a tinted resin

that wasn't power Armour in SST, it was a Skinnie Venerable dreadnought. it's more akin to an eldar war Walker then powered armour. the skinnie soldiers and above had powered armour about the equivalent or better then the Mobile infantry in SST mini game. the Venerables had what was effectively the equivalent of an exosuit, stat-wise. the venerable dreadnought would be more of a marauder analogue in the Skinny military. the valonians of course, are not the same. I'd love to get a not-venerable dreadnought. and the not-cougars and not-grizzlies. those are some of the only models i never got for SST. seeing this stuff again brings back old issues with the skinnie line. I often wished the skinnies has been more consistently sculpted. the venerables were skinnier then the soldiers and guard(no pun intended) despite having far more survivability in their power armored suits. that seemed just a little absurd. and the general and retinue parted completely with the general design philosophy of the rest of the skinnies(being boxy instead of smooth flowing lines like the rest). |

And to think the original Skinnies ran around *nekkid* in Heinlein's novel, and were the weaker, poorer cousins to the Arachnids militarily speaking

Please do release that skinnie exoframe. I have no problem mixing "Valonians" with my old skinnies. I was wondering if it was actually released or not since I've never been able to find one

@Crucible Orc- Thank you, I was not sure. The size problems are one of the reasons we have not released the smaller skinnies and opted to go with the larger ones. @Wolfprophet- it was never released but a few samples were made, but no molds :( RebelMike RebelMinis.com |

They need some bad ass looking suits, vehicles and flyers. Keep the look in line with the "infantry" and "Speeder Bike" not the "General and Retinue" which Crucible Orc rightly points out parts completely with the general design philosophy. Since they control and empire that's growing their equipment should reflect application of military power to project their goals and protect their own valuable resources. So they'd have a small force with an ability to focus their firepower and great mobility. They could also be very populous and therefore it doesn't matter if they loose troops, they have millions more. So they could have power armor or maybe they don't need it? I think it depends on how the concept art looks. |

Sorry to disregard the discussion of xeno-scum and their heretical technology but I must know: are the Cougars and Grizzlies going back into production? |

Yes, but those were the Skinnie civilians, not the military. |

Yes, but those were the Skinnie civilians, not the military. A number of them were pointing guns in the general direction of the protagonist IIRC, so their status as civvies is problematic

@Gasmasked Mook- Yes, the Cougars and Grizzlies going back into production. Hopefully in the 1st quarter next year. We are not sure how we will release them.. maybe a part metal/resin kit.. but they will be back :) I agree on the General. That group is a different off shoot of the Skinnie race :) |

Not in Heinlin's generally libertarian universe. Imagine a Red Dawn scenario, where someone invades the US. How many US households have firearms legally? It's about a sixth of the population. How many inner-city types have firearms illegally? Well, my impression is all of them, but I know that's not true. So I will assume that it's not more than double the general populations %, so not more than a third of the inner-city types have firearms. Heavily libertarian societies tend to have a much higher proportion of firearms owners. Don't forget that the armed resistance could also be police, as that was a smash-and-run raid on a Skinnie city, not a military base. |
