Some pics of a commission I wrapped up the other day, Elizabethan horse for Khurasan miniatures to go along with the foot previewed a while back, I know some members were waiting for an update on these. A tough job to do all the amrour and mail, but I am fairly pleased with how they turned out. Apologies for the poor photography, my camera isn't great. High Command,

They are beautiful figures, but I have to wonder – why two moving horses and one standing still? Hard to make a convincing unit

Yes they are very nice, the last lad with the baton in the high command set would be Mountjoy I'd say. Will there be Border Horse as well as those splendid light horse? |
lbspersqin | 16 Dec 2013 7:14 a.m. PST |
These are fantastic, I've been working on the Irish and they need some adversaries. Any chance you might branch out and do some French WOR or 80yw? |
clibinarium | 16 Dec 2013 8:14 a.m. PST |
Thanks all. On the static horse, I noticed that my original idea didn't come out that well (he is supposed to be moving forward) so he was altered to give him a bit more forward motion since the taking of these photos. There's also a fourth horse not pictured which is in motion. Border horse; the boss will have to decide on that one, I'd guess they are certainly possible if the first part of the range sells. The general is based on a portrait of Devereux;
but the very similar portrait of Mountjoy makes them practically interchangeable. Next up will be Spanish infantry which I have started, but were put on hold to get these guys done. Might branch out further into 80YW if they go well, but again that will be a decision for Jon. |

They are very nice! Now I just need to convince Mr. Wallet I need a new army.
Getting closer to being able to do Kalvin of Otherwhen. Great minds think alike! |

Ah the Earl of Essex, very good. |
doctorphalanx | 18 Dec 2013 5:47 a.m. PST |
Absolutely brilliant! Can't wait to get my hands on some of these
Any artillery planned? |
khurasanminiatures | 19 Dec 2013 7:22 a.m. PST |
We are talking about making artillery now -- not sure how often they were used in field armies in Ireland but they will be needed for other campaigns. Same with the border horse -- the English used Irish as skirmishing horse in Tyrone's Rebellion but people will want them eventually. Next up will be Spanish infantry, who took the field in aid of the Irish. And what a can of worms will be opened by making those! |
Knight of St John | 19 Dec 2013 1:42 p.m. PST |
Spanish infantry sound good, will need lot's of them. Any chance of a few Turks ? |
Oh Bugger | 20 Dec 2013 4:59 a.m. PST |
the English used Irish as skirmishing horse in Tyrone's Rebellion but people will want them eventually. Yes they did but rarely in the form of traditional Irish Horse. Many Irish were recruited as demilancers and sometimes Palesmen turned out as cavalry. Some of the Palesmen would have been very well equipped but with old gear. It would look great on the Wargames table but its probably too obscure for most gamers. I would say you have these angles covered with your demilance and light horse. Good news on the border horse. I look forward to seeing them. |
doctorphalanx | 20 Dec 2013 5:56 a.m. PST |
I don't think artillery was important in the field in Ireland but it would be nice to have some. Hayes-McCoy in Irish Battles (endnotes, page 130) mentions a saker abandoned at Yellow Ford and three falcons (2.5 or 3 pounders) captured at Enniskillen. A small gun would be ideal for my own purposes (i.e. it will fit on a small base!). And, obviously, some artillerymen please! |
Oh Bugger | 20 Dec 2013 6:27 a.m. PST |
If anyone cannot wait for Elizabethan artillerymen Essex do a nice pack. Actually thinking about it someone used to make a Falcon in 15mm maybe Jacobite Miniatures? |
doctorphalanx | 20 Dec 2013 7:52 a.m. PST |
Yes, Essex figures are very nice. I collected loads years ago for my mediaeval armies
The Renaissance figures labelled 1559-1605 will be providing recruits for my Elizabethan rebel force, but I'll await the Khurassan ones for my Royal army. |
khurasanminiatures | 23 May 2014 2:23 p.m. PST |
At long last I have received the cavalry castings. I'll be sending all these models off to be painted Tuesday, so I'm hoping the Elizabethans will be available for purchase within a month. The last element of this first wave, musketeers, is being sculpted at present. The light horse we've initially made are better for Ireland, I suspect. They are lighter than other English light horse of the same period, possibly to better permit them to catch the fleet Irish horse. Similarly they carry (or even wear!) shields with St George's crosses on them. This also makes sense for Ireland where darts (javelins) were so common, and the lighter English "light horse" might otherwise be mistaken for Irish rebels. Down the road a bit,I may ask clibinarium to make a second set of light horse, for the continent. (Remember, these were made to fight my Tyrone Irish.) Border Horse may also be made (not used in Ireland, where native skirmishing horse were used). We may even make bills and bows, which had just been retired by the army, but were still used by some militias in Ireland. But the Spaniards are the priority at present! Infantry are sculpted and cavalry are next. Those virtually beg for Dutch to fight

Mister Walker, you have been buying 28mm Elizabethans, do you really need 15mm too? Lovely figures, I was tempted myself….. |
clibinarium | 19 Nov 2014 1:35 p.m. PST |
Can't answer that, but I can tell you I've just finished sculpting some bill-men and longbow-men for the range. |

Hi clibinarium is there any chance you could be a nice chap and show us some pictures of the Spanish cav ? Michael |

I'm afraid I have no good pictures of the Spanish cavalry, since my camera is putting an artifact in the pictures that I can't edit out, they aren't of a quality I'd be content to post here. Plus there's a couple of packs we are rejigging in light of information we've received. |
