Here is a list of potential conflicts as I understand them now. This thread is not meant to rile up anyone. All war should remain on the table top..but if we are not studying such potential conflicts, then what are all the modern miniatures for?? If this is offensive, you can always pit the Republic of Blue against the Union of Red. Or any of the Imagi-nations.

-China seizes Taiwan

- Japan and China clash over ADIZs

- China seizes islands claimed by Vietnam

- North Korea invades South Korea

- Mexican Destabilization

- Russia annexes Georgia (the one in the Eastern Hemisphere, not the Western Hemisphere)

- China and India clash (they actually did in 1962 but the Cuban Missile Crisis seems to have overshadowed it)

- Russia and China clash in the Far East

You left out a possible US and China clash over ADIZ/SDIZ, in the South China Sea, which they consider "their" lake, and we consider to be international airspace, and waters.

They've already had one of their pilots crash into one of our recon planes, in a very provocative, close encounter move to dissuade our reconnaissance aircraft from their mission, in international airspace, a bit more than a decade ago.

The Chinese pilot lost his life for the trouble, and we had our recon bird and aircrew captured and held hostage for a while.

Sadly, we took no action to dissuade the Chinese from similar provocative acts.

So, about 12 years later, while sailing in international waters, one of our warships has to take evasive action to keep from colliding with an errant Chinese naval vessel which cuts across the bow of it.

I suspect again, nothing will be done to punish the Chinese for their provocative actions, so the cycle will continue.

We also may become embroiled on Japan's side, when the Chinese overstep the line, and Japan chooses to do something about it.

How far our can they be?

- California vs. Federal troops following economic crisis and secession.

- Texas vs. Federal troops following the same

- Saudi Arabian civil war – warring factions of the House of Saud vs. each other, or vs. radical Islamists.

- Saudi Arabia vs. Yemen

- Iran-Iraq redux, now Shia vs. Kurd vs. Sunni

- Russia annexes Georgia (the one in the Eastern Hemisphere, not the Western Hemisphere)

Wolverines!

How bout a coup attempt in North Korea, leading to all-out civil war, leading to complete hairball as China, Japan, US, and Russia all jump in to insure their interests are protected.

India v. China,
Japan v. North Korea

Putin brings back cold war by attacking western interest through proxy states.

2nd US civil war

Hi Ghost6 and all,I'd rather you write a potential scenario we could all peruse comment (and pull apart 8-) these who hits who what if lists are a bit vague, I think something like. A chinese recon team gets entangled on one of the Senkaku islands against a full Japanese commando unit doing island landing training with their allies a US Helo reco unit the chinese need to withdraw without too severe losses to their trawler they came in on and get to the protective line of frigates securely ( fill in troop types, their morale ratings, weapons and rules you would use etc. I think best in 15mm with Force on Force rules should work and a chance to use one of those US Marine Corp plane/copter thingys to drop of their Japanese allies I would have dummy unit set up for the Chinese to make it more interesting any more ideas Gents?

I'm intrigued with the Chinese and what they really are planning for these islands and how far they are willing to go and what it would take for the US to pull its thumb out of its butt on this one, will they pursue if the recon group gets to the trawler? ( talking scenario wise only here folks, not geopolitical claptrap! Its all about the games and toys we play with and want;-) to play with)Cheers

A couple of years ago, when Hugo Chavez was rattling his saber, a war game buddy and I decided to game a potential invasion of Colombia by Venezuela ostensibly in support of FARC rebels. The lack of decent roads on the border makes such an invasion impossible, but it was a pretty interesting lineup. On one side, you had the rebels, a typical guerrilla force, but with a huge mechanized conscripted force (French tanks, as well as a few other countries of origin) riding in like the cavalry, and on the other, a well-trained, experienced, airmobile COIN force (Lanzeros), but with a serious shortage of AT weapons. We never ended up playing that one, but I still think its got a lot of gaming potential.

2nd US civil war

Oh hell, son, we'd mop the floor with them a second time.

Tgunner14 Dec 2013 2:48 p.m. PST

A second Pacific War could make for some interesting game fodder. That could pit the PRC up against a coalition of nations like South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, and the United States. There are tons of miniatures in 1:3000 scale that can cover most of the combatants at sea, and there are several aircraft scales that can cover the conflict too…. ditto for ground miniatures.

I can see a war breaking out over some of the islands in the South China Sea and maybe an invasion of Taiwan. I would think that would be a nightmare scenario for China because it would pit them against their biggest customers (Japan and the US), but it would give gamers a lot of force choices. I'll probably do this in 15mm for skirmishes and 6mm for larger actions. Now if the game companies will get on the stick and give us Chinese AFVs in 15mm!
