Current subscribers to the Solo Wargamers Association will probably have already got their copies of the Jan-March 2014 Issue 185. And as usual it's a cover to cover read-fest !

"Skirmish in the Sudan 1879″ by Steve Turner describes a part of Steve's on-going colonial campaign – which could easily be played out as a standalone solo scenario

"Don Featherstone: A Remembrance" by Rob Morgan reflects on the huge contribution of that most prolific of wargame authors

"Company Commander 3″ by David Newport is the latest in a series of articles using his solo WWII rules (these, by the way, can be found for free on the SWA's Blog – PDF link )

"Impossible Quiz" by Marvin Scott – is just what it says it is !

"Solo Wargaming with Heritage Figures" by Bob Stewart see's a neglected "bargain box" of figures returned to fighting fitnmess for DBA

"Some Campaign Considerations Part I, Moving from Dream To Reality" by George Arnold. This see's last issue's dream ACW project moving into the realm of reality with a peninsula campaign coming together !

"Recycled Rules Mechanisms" by Paul Le Long has the good idea of revisiting old rules sets and finding new applications – with the example of transferring a mechanism from Star Wars spaceship combat to Aircraft attacking WWII battleships !

"Solo Roleplaying (and wargaming too)" by Paul Le Long looks at a number of ways to add external factors into solo games – such as "Mythic" and "Fate".

"Biblical Ancients Part 3: The Tournament and Conclusions" by Jeffrey G. Chorney continues the description of a Kriegspiel style game – with a novel approach to battles fought out on a backgammon board (!). Left field thinking at its best.

"Colonial Air Warfare" by Rob Morgan concerns itself with post-WWI actions on the North West Frontier, and looks at the tricky problem of ground to air communications.

"Domino Theory" by Paul Le Long sees Paul thinking of different randomisation methods based around standard dominoes. Some useful ideas here.

"The Bandy Papers" by Jeffrey G. Chorney is another in the series of member's "dream solo projects" this time set in WWI – but be careful what you dream, you may find by next issue you're doing it !

Finally "I Do It By Myself" by John McLaughlin offers up a method for controlling two sides in a battle so that the player doesn't know the whole battle plan before the figures hit the table !

Which, all in all, deserves a "WOW!" IMHO.

Details about SWA subscriptions can be found here : lonewarriorswa.com/subscribe . PDF subscriptions are at least $10 USD cheaper than print subscriptions!

Got mine, that Impossible Quiz sure lived up to its name…..

The rest of it was a really good read as well.
