so basically over a fast surface, ie. enamels, they work fine, but over water-base acrylics
no good

Very nice review. Concise and informative. Can't ask for better than that. |

Funnily enough, it made me decide to give them a go. So I guess I should add "even-handed" to my description of the review

Worked for me over acrylics

Acrylic paints often have a chalky, rough surface, when dry (take a look under a low-power microscope, or a loupe, if you can). Someone recently posted, within the past two months, that the solution is to paint on a clear coat of Future/Pledge/Klear Floor Polish, without anything added (not even water). This will fill in the chalk surface, rendering it smoother. After that dries (15 minutes or less), you can then apply whatever wash you want (water-based, or solvent-based), and it will only collect within the folds, and recesses, not the overall painted surfaces. Cheers! |

Thanks for the feedback, I try and be even-handed. When I worked to remove the wash over Vallejo Model Colour with tap water I started to loose the basecoat on areas of high relief. You can see this on the video when you look at the rear of the green painted upper hull or the sides of the yellow painted turret box. However, when I tried the same thing over PSC's acrylic Army Sprays this did not occur. In neither case was a protective layer of varnish put down as I would if I were using an enamel wash. My concern was – is – that if I was to airbrush a VMC acylic tri-colour camo pattern over my dunkelgelb basecoat and then applied the wash elements of the camo might be removed during the tidying up process. Of course, this may have been my own bad luck or technique but I can only report what happened to me. As someone who is comfortable with enamel washes I'm playing safe. That said, the helpings are very generous for the price and when I work on pre-painted buildings – and the like – I'm thinking trenches and other things – I'll likely use PSC washes as they are a cost effective way of achieving a nice effect. Just not on my lovely armour :) Hope this helps. |

That's a good point, many of my sprays that I end up being unhappy with on my tanks end up doing excellent stuff on my terrain. Guess i'm not as fussy with scenics. |

@ Justin, I saw in your video review what appeared to be a coloured pamphlet outlining the wash procedures. Did this come with your wash set? or was it supplied seperately from PSC? I got my washes quickly by post, but no pamphlet. |

@ Jarrovian – No, this was a separate marketing flyer. There was nothing more in the box :) |

They worked fine for me over acrylics. I just needed a little care when taking the stuff off. I was going over Army Painter Primer, for the most part (which is relatively tough and not thin
). I have used it on other surfaces (the same product under a different name on die cast vehicles) and, of course, the glossy painted surface is a tough as nails so it worked a treat. If I was concerned about using it over regular model acrylics (or a thin, airbrushed acrylics), I guess I'd Future wash the model first. Still a real time saving product IMHO. John T |

I have found that the PSC sprays appear to be a partly water repellant when dry which is causing problem with my usual wash technique. Hoping to try the PSC spray over the weekend to see if I like the finish as I have lots of tanks waiting for painting and can sprays save time if I can get a finish I like! |
