That was cool and plausible. I lean more toward 'hard SF,' and that looks like a perfect MBT for a near-future army. |

Yeah, I think that, in some ways, it looks quite boring: but that's how I'd expect a 'stealthy' tank to look so probably quite accurate! Aircraft wise, for example, give me a Tornado over an F22 any day (or preferably an [English Electric] Lightning: oh the simple brutality of it) but I understand the need for stealth and can appreciate the aesthetic. So: it's a cool tank, a nicely designed tank (love the Merkava rear hatch), a realistic future tank, but not one that inspires fear through its brutality. John T |

I did not pick up from the vid where the crew are located. If they are not all in hull in a special protective section then rather than tank of the future this is the ultimate pimped tank of the present. The Gun at 120mm is definatly current rather than future as 135mm to 155mm is likely to be in the next full/new generation. The turret seams quite large so I suspect it is still crewed. I am hoping that the new Russian Amarat tank will show the in hull/large gun arrangement that was evolving at the end of the Cold War. |

The Gun at 120mm is definatly current rather than future as 135mm to 155mm is likely to be in the next full/new generation. Good point. I mean, all proper tanks in the future will have 200mm power guns (insert evil grin/biased opinion emoticon here!) But seriously, last I heard, there was definate talk of fitting 140mm guns to Abrams and so forth so, yeah: bigger guns! And that sort of size is difinately going to need an auto loader. Or geneticly engineered loader crew members! So, you may wellbe fight, Kabrank. Probably best thought of as a stealthy, very near future Merkava Five or something

Hi John Yes indeed very near future. That is one problem I have with many Sci-Fi tank models as they just look like warmed over M1/Merkava etc and so very near future. Great for 2020 Hard Sci Fi but not far beyond. At least this tank tries some Stealth which is nice. |
Black Bull | 13 Dec 2013 6:11 a.m. PST |
Think crew are in the hull and that turret is large due to ammo storage/autoloader isn't this more of a inf support vehicle rather than MBT |

If they get electromagnetic guns working there will not be a need for a larger bore, bore size could actually decrease significantly. There would be no more need for a discarding sabot. |

The thing with tanks is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Abrams, Merkava, Leopard II, Etc. are all well-proven designs that have excellent combinations of protection, firepower, and mobility,(In different monochromes) and are basically the pinnacle of AFV design. When facing any other AFV, they are quite potent, and so many future designs will be patterned off of the ideas that they have brought to the table since they are tried and true for the next 30-40 years. Once new future weapons start to usurp them however, possibly energy, gausse, Rail guns, etc, then armor will change to adapt, which is always what happens. You may have a radical change in tank/ armor design to meet the new threats that a tank may/will face on a future battlefield. |

Thanks Norman. So a nice move forward, though I would have preferred a smaller turret and not sure how viable the Radar stealth will be. Dybanan Larger Bore is good for MOUNT operations as it can deliver more powerful HE/HEP/HESH. We are seeing in Syria forces resorting to 152mm SPG [like in Berlin 1945] when 125mm fails to do sufficient damage to buildings/fortifications. Larger Bore also allows larger long range missiles to be fired to extend vehicle reach beyond the Horizon or for AA use. |

Thanks Ron. I had seen one of these before. Nice to see it moving. I would be interesting to know how functional it is internally and if the "Stealth" materials have been used in this demonstrator. |

In ways nice looking but don't like that turret, looks flawed, having a large hole where a camera/sensor is on front seems bad idea. |

I had shared these videos a while back on the facebook 15mm page. I can sympathize with those who may find it a bit boring but it is an inspiration for other designs. Being a miliary veteran, I favor clutter free designs. Things that stick out from a vehicle's body reflect radar easily just like in aircraft and ships. |

Yup and the ADS mounts stick out quite alot. The Israel Trophy system would fit better. |

No, it's a tank of the "never" most likely. It's pretty, it's ambitious, I would bet you $100 USD that if this program actually manages not to fail, the end result will not look anything near as Hollywood as that thing. Poland has the population of Canada or California, and not nearly as good an economy as either. They can't even begin to afford this program. -Kle. |

If they get electromagnetic guns working there will not be a need for a larger bore, bore size could actually decrease significantly. There would be no more need for a discarding sabot. There is still a military need for explosive projectiles, largely for infantry support. I'm not sure that anything smaller than a 105mm is adequate, and some regions have seriously overbuilt houses that a 105 can't easily mousehole. Sleek-looking tank, and very quiet. I'd like to think that this beastie could be produced soon. |

To be honest, I think the wave of the future for cutting edge military hardware will be robotics. I'm not saying land systems like tanks won't be used, but such systems will be radically reconfigured because crew will not be onboard. They may even be fully AI. I suspect poorer nations will continue to use crewed vehicles, fighting the robots of wealthier nations at a disadvantage akin to the T-72 vs the M1 or Challenger in Desert Storm. That's why we had a heavy combat drone designed for our NF range rather than a tank, and added ground effect as a drive mode. This is the Columbiad heavy drone, fully AI with optional remote operator override:

Did anyone besides me notice that it apparently has brake lights and turn signals? tsoalr.com/?p=1 Oh, and everybody knows that this is the real future of tanks:
But until we get that, the proposed beast will have to do. EDIT: Dangnabbit. Can't seem to get the picture function to work, and it's just a straight gif from the projectrho site
