For anyone interested in the possibilities with those cheap Christmas villages, I recently purchased one of their "collectible" items and had my way with it. I thought the result was worth sharing.

That turned out looking great!

I debated breaking off one of the wings of the angel for a more scarred look but I decided not to in the end.

Thanks Chris!

Buy another, and make a battle damaged version. grin

I have that, it has been the centerpiece of many an urban skirmish.

Excellent suggestion! My wife now hates you!

The vegetation over the snow is a cleaver cover-up.

You just gave me a good idea.

Yes a second congrats for the idea of snow becomes vegetation. The snow has always been a turn off to these type buildings no matter how cheap they get. Now I may have to rethink my position with a couple 70% off cheap buys and give it a try.

Thanks for the compliments!

Some pieces have snow in most unfortunate places though so be scrutinizing in your purchase. For example, their covered bridge would make for a neat addition to an AWI game or a fantasy shire but the snow is all over it and you'd think the covered bridge had an algae issue or something lol. Also, Christmas lights on the pieces kill some of them.

Simple and effective mate, nice work.

I love your solution to the problem of cast-on snow.
I'll have to take a second look at the Christmas village stuff, now.
Thanks!

Nice piece.

6 hours to cut through the packaging and requiring me to sharpen my knife at least 10 times in between layers.

I read layers as lawyers. LOL.

Reminds me of some of the ruins you see in LOTR

I wonder how hard it would be to cut the angel off entirely? Then it could be treated as an open dome, or easily fitted with an interior pool/well, or a figure painted as a replacement statue.

I have been doing similar work for years with Dollar Tree buildings. I don't usually flock them, but painted snow can be re-painted black, gray or green and it looks okay.
Yours look great, nice repainting.

Lol…if only. ;)

If you took a chisel and gently tapped at it, I am sure it wouldn't be hard at all. You might end up having to smooth out where the angel was though.
