What rules would you use for small scale skirmishes between Border Reiver gangs/families of about a dozen hardy lads ?

Bonus points if the rules have a framework for linked games/campaigns.

Two Hour Wargames "Muskets and Mohawks"and "Long Rifle" had an ECW variant that would work for Border Reivers.

To be honest I have been very tempted to take a look at Muskets and Tomahawks for the border mayhem. There are similarities with the troop classifications ,regulars, militia, civilians and lawless warrior types. The main differences would be the potentially larger number of horseman and to a lesser extent changes in weaponry. On the other hand M&T will need more than a dozen figures per side.

I think Witchfinder General would work very well. Few figures, about the right period and you can add Scottish superstition for real.

I can second WFG.
I have had a few games using them for Border Reivers which went very well.
The only change I made to the rules, and which I guess would be useful for 'standard' WFG games too was to add rules for poor light and darkness.

Another set which is worth considering is the Legends of the Old West/LoTR skirmish type rules.
