Does anyone do or tried or thought of the Afghan-Sikh wars of 1836? Or in that time frame?
Not worried about figures or scale. Just how did you do it? Where there any special rules to consider?
What orders of battle were used?
What were your sources?
Were the uniformed Khalsa involved?

I ask as my friend has 1879 Afghans.
I have 1845 Sikhs.
Trying to maximise our gaming value with the figures we have. (As I haven't finished my British.)

Not sure about 1836, but an 1839-41 three way contest between Brits, Sikhs and Afghans is a possibility. The British were reliant on Sikh goodwill for supply lines through to Afghanistan and its not hard to see friction arising from this.

DFM,

I have the following OB posted over on TheVirtualArmchairgeneral.com:

Parade State and Order of Battle, Sikh Supplementary Force, 1st Afghan War, 1839

Also, go to Google Books and Archive.org and do a search for the following key words:

Claude Wade Khyber (<--various spellings)

You should get at least two books, one by Wade another by Ali (methinks).

There is also an article in the United Service Magazine (again avail from Google Books for FREE) titled:

"Forcing of the Khyber Pass under Lt. Col. C.M. Wade

(United Services Magazine 1842, Part 2)

You should be able to download a pretty decent amount of information for free from these two sources alone…let alone a regular Google/Wikipedia search.

Hope that helps…

Andrew

Go to google books and look for: The Sikhs and the Sikh Wars: The Rise, Conquest, and Annexation of the …
By Sir Charles Gough, Arthur Donald Innes

The first few chapters detail the actions of the Sikh "army" vs the Afghans. Gives a good idea of the campaigning and what it took to stabilize things, 1830's -wise.

Adam:

You might also take a look at Colonial Campaigns, Sikh Wars here:

The first two scenarios are Sikh-Afgan battles: Naushera 1823 and Jamrud 1837. The rest of the scenarios are from the Anglo-Sikh wars, and most of the background information is for the later period.
