Looking at the books available from Partizan Press, I found out that they have a series of books on the 1644 Campaigns of the Civil War ("Europe Had No Better Soldiers: The Army of the Eastern Association and the York Campaign 1644", "The Unfortunate Battaile of Alresforde – The Battle of Cheriton 1644", "The Business at Action – The Battle of Nantwich 1644" and "Lostwithiel 1644:The Campaign and the Battle"). However, as amazing as those books seem to be, they are relativelly expensive for me. So I'de like to know, are those books really essential for those interested on the military uniforms of the civil war? And if not, are there better books for the uniforms?

Since there's no real hard evidence for most of the real uniforms of the regiments involved in the Civil Wars I'd give these titles a miss. But by the same token, no 'uniform' book is going to be that helpful.

No they are not essential if you want clothing details. IMHO the best set you can get are not expensive:

Old Robins Foot and Foot Colours of the ECW both published by Partizan are really excellent.
The Osprey Elite ECW titles are good.
Haythornthwaite has errors but remains a nice book to have and regard alongside the titles mentioned above. It can often be bought very cheaply.

I find that I keep going back to Peter Young's books, Edgehill, Marston Moor and Nasby, there are other books in the series but they tend to rehash the facts already covered in the above.
This series of books are now over 30+ years old.
The research and facts in them is still good, his conclusions are not away correct, with current thinking.

These books are packed full of useful stuff.

I am sorry to say they are now out of print, I have see them for about a £10.00 GBP each on second hand book stalls and on ebay.
