I set myself a goal of finishing off the last 5 rules I wanted to use to replay the battle of Heraclea on a 2'x2' table. So I have done it (10pm on 30 November is when I finished playing) and this is game 5 for November and game 17 overall.

I an finishing off with an obscure set from the late seventies – Axe and Arrow. Unit based rules with a novel combat result table that forces bases to be lost from left flank, right flank or centre of the unit. But with no examples of troop types and no examples of play I did find the rules a challenge to interpret. They do give a good game and I would play them again; but I have played, in my opinion, better unit based rules.

This is likely my last replay with the Battle of Heraclea. I think my next battle – there are still rules I have I want to try out – will be something with "warband" Celts or Germans. but that may be awhile away as I want to keep playtesting my own rules and get in a bit of ww2 20mm gaming.
