Painting the Strelets Bengal Lancers but can't decide if I should go all khaki or the more colorful dress uniform. And if dress, which regiment? I like the look of Skinner's horse as well as Hodson's horse. And the headgear research is driving me batty too. Any suggestions?

Did any regiment use khaki uniforms with colored regimental turbans? That might be a good compromise.

Strelets sculpting leaves a lot to be desired and makes it difficult to paint faces, hands, etc. Most are just lumps of material roughly pushed into place. Sigh, but I keep on buying these sets from them. Misplaced fondness for their plastic charm? Maybe. I hope these painted ones turn out nice though.

Here's a trial paint scheme but I still might change it.

Off to a good start anyway! ;)
I've only seen two variants. One on the old Airfix multipose box, he had a yellow or khaki tunic and a striped turban. Another was in an excellent cavalry book and he wore a darkblue coat with a white turban of blue and yellow stripes if I remember correctly. I won't envy you painting stripes on turbans in that scale though!
I didn't even know these fellas existed, they'd be a great addition to my old Esci British with native troops.

Cooey, I believe all the Bengal Lancer regiments mixed full-colour "pagris"/turbans with Khaki field uniforms, from the 1860s until WWI (I know I've seen pics of them wearing non-khaki multi-colour turbans during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900).

Which war are you using them for?

Look out for 'Indian Cavalry Regiments 1880-1914' A.H.Bowling Almark Publications. All regiments are illustrated in colour. the book is 8"x6" 72 pages.

Thanks for the suggestions. Still mustering courage to paint the turbans though. I'm not sure what war to use them in since I'm pretty new with 19th c stuff. Probably will try vsf first
