This is number 4 in replaying Heraclea with different rulesets in November. It is using a set of rules I have been interested for a long time. I used the fast play version that streamlines some of the rules and doe not have a lot of extra stuff such as flank marches. I also played on a 2'x2' board when the fast play is designed for a 4'x4' table. I had a great time. The rules are fun with sufficient detail to keep me interested and involved.
A bit of background:
I set myself the task of using 5 sets of rules and I have 4 days left to go. I am hoping to make it. The Ancient Warfare game took about 10 days elapsed (rather than the 6 I was hoping for) as I was distracted by a few things:
*My Kickstarter Ogre box turned up. My 5-year old son wanted to help me punch everything out so I was not going to say no. Everyone else has said it so I will too "The box is huge!" Far larger than I thought it would be.
Also a few rules turned up that I acquired and I just *had* to skim them:
* Bijou Battles – 2mm rules, looks nice and crunchy and, while hex based. Looked like a small game without hexes could work.
* Legendary Battles – fantasy rules form Canadian Wargamers Group that look good too.
* Armies of Arcana – the latest edition was too expensive to ship from overseas but this one came up locally so got it. Have always been interested in giving these rules a go.
* "The Big One" boardgame that I had been looking for for ages (WW2 Europe on a small map by Bil Banks, the same person that did Ancients and Imperator).
…and either we went out or had visitors 3 nights in a row.

This is a shot from the roman left flank when the Triarii manged to catch the elephant that overshot the Roman Heavy Cavalry. The elephant overshot due to me using the wrong orders!
