Okay, i'm dumb to this whole idea of 3D printing
is there a company that I can send an idea to and they can make me a 3D sculpt isn 28mm? A company that specializes in such dreams? |

Shapeways. If you need a sculptor, you'll have to hire one yourself, but once you have the STL file just upload and buy. Hey, VonTed, do you know of any way to condescendingly mock people who should use google? |

Stepman, take a look around, Shapeways isn't exactly state-of-the-art when it comes to printer resolution. The reference I have is getting an airplane printed years ago, sending the same file to Shapeways and they came back saying it is too fine. Now, they may have upgraded since then. Sorry I don't have any specific companies for you. |

Actually, that's a good point. What are you trying to accomplish? Shapeways is good for one-sy two-sy kind of applications or where you don't intend to build a business around it. For example, if you decide that your power armor ucken miniature looks weird and want to print a part to fix it. Or if you don't like flat tops on your space ship carriers and want to make your own to fit with a fleet you have. Or if you drew something really cool and want one for yourself, plus others who saw it and liked it on a forum. If you're looking to make a mold master, then there are other companies you'll want to go with, who charge much more for higher resolution. On the Taccoms forum (Epic 40k / Epic Armageddon) there are several 6mm manufacturers who do their masters with 3d printing. Then they clean that master up, and create the molds that way. Onslaught Miniatures, Troublemaker Games, and Steel Crown Productions come immediately to mind-- you should ask them what they use. John Bear Ross does a lot of 3d printing and knows the products very well, though he's a very well regarded minis sculptor rather than a manufacturer in and of himself. Meanwhile, you have a traditional manufacturer like IWM which has much less expertise in that area. |

In Von Ted's defense, he DID use a smiley. I always love smileys. |
