We recently played a First Carlist wargame using modified Neil Thomas 19th century rules, a full narrative and engravings can be found here link

A very nice account and fine looking troops.

How did you modify the Neil Thomas rules? I have the book, but haven't played any games with the rules yet.

Do you prfer them to the Black Powder rules you used in your earlier games?

@arthur1815

Added rules for squares, we thought these still relevant in the FCW, also added rules for rockets (non in the rules)we also tinkered with the morale to make it less all or nothing. I like Black Powder a lot but cannot remember all the different add ons, first fire etc. which tailors the units for the period you are gaming and after playing BP on a large table with large armies I feel more than ever that this is the level that you get the best from them, not on my 6'x4' even when using reduced ranges and movement.

Thanks for your reply; I'm encouraged to give the Thomas rules a try. I agree that they are a lot easier to grasp and remember than BP.
