Hi there! Is there a really good Post Apocalytic Zombie skirmish set of rules anywhere? I am thinking of starting this period and would like to know what my fellow TMPids think? Also, how good are Zombies (the slow sort), and what does it take to 'kill' one? Just in case I decide to write my own
. Thanks! |

I play all things zombie. It's complex but worth it. The ARSE rules are worth a look but only for quick games. It's especially fun for non gamers or young kids. If you want something for a full campaign or for a bit more hardcore then All Things Zombie is your game. |

Here are some free rules I wrote (way, way back): link They are designed more for teens caught in a horror movie than real post-apocalypse stuff though. |

All Things Zombie from Two Hour Wargames (ATZ by THW). Major plus is the "Yahoo! Group" and THW now has a forum: site.twohourwargames.com/forum Lots of knowledgeable people on both and Ed usually gets back to you the same day. |

Mein Zombie from ODGW. Easy to learn and very fun to play. |

I started cobbling a set together cherry-picking bits from the various sets on FWG back when Mahotsukai was talking about the idea. It's in pile-of-notes form, but it's pretty much there. |

there is a dedicated forum for zombie wargaming and if you have any questions on rules this might be the place to go: link |

I (in a complete 180 in my previous opinion) recommend All things Zombie IF (I repeat: IF) you can find someone who knows how it works and NOT try and learn it yourself solo. I found myself lost trying to do it solo, but lucked out at MilleniumCon in Round Rock, Texas and played with a more than knowledgeable GM (Jeff McCulloch) running the game. |

Another vote for AR:SE. Great set, very simple but fun. Not a fan of ATZ as I can't stand the reaction system it uses and the pages of tables. Others love it though, so what do I know? Chain Reaction 3 is free from THW website and has the same basic mechanics. If you like that then ATZ is for you. If not, then look somewhere else. |

Yet another vote for AR:SE. Great set of simple, amazingly fun, free rules. |

Now here I have to say that I the only experience I have is with All Things Zombie from Two Hour Wargames. I've played them a few time at the Millennium conventions and they are buckets of fun! These rules are structured such that the rule run the Zeds so it's players cooperating to survive or the players competing against each other for survival. Since the rules run the Zeds, it's easy and fun to play solo too. |

I can't believe nobody mentioned it yet, but we prefer to use "Dead Walk Again". It's free set of rules and does have a yahoo website presence as well. link David G. gamerarchitect.blogspot.com |

My list is as follows in order: 1) Ambush Z for larger games 2) No More Room In Hell 3) Pike and Shot and Zombies -- but NOT for post apoc gaming
4) The Dead Walk Again 5) 7Zombie

SCAdian – Just out of curiosity are you talking about ATZ Final Fade Out, the current version released two years ago? It has Stop boxes after every few pages with examples and easy exercises to help learn the rules. The previous version, Better Dead Than Zed did not. Just wondering. |

Since nobody has mentioned it, we (Grekwood Miniatures) have just written our own set of "Fast Play Zombie Rules". They will be available on our website (for FREE) the first week of December. I wrote 2 blog posts, showing how to set up the table using the rules and then testing them. Here are the links: Both include cool photos, and a mini Grekwood Town! I'll second what Ed just said. The lastest version are EASY to understand. The way the rules have been rewritten makes the process very clear. Of course it helps to put that guy in your brain who has playing IGOUGO for the better part of century in a cupboard for a bit. If you can do that, then the latest incarnation of the ATZ is pretty easy to understand. I will reiterate that, while the ATZ system is table driven, player v player is as well supported by the rules as player(s) v game system. For instance, the game at Millennium had – I don't know how many players, but it was a lot. The game was played with 15mm miniatures, Hot Whels vehicles, and two Hanna Montana toy malls. The objective of the game was to be the last survivor. The game spawned impromptu teams trying to kill each other while trying to avoid being eaten. The game mechanics spawns more Zeds (they are attracted to noise) as the game progressed. Avoiding becoming Zed snacks becomes more and more difficult as the numbers increase and the survivors killing them off decrease. Anyhow, you get the idea. There are lots of AARs decribing the desperation and panic that these rules very effectively generate. To be fair, I don't know if other rules instill these feeling effectively or not; I haven't played them. What I do know is that All Things Zombie does provide epic games that are fun and memorable. |

AR:SE also gives that growing panic and same effect as survivors dwindle and Zeds numbers mounts. Definitely beer n pretzels but has become favorites everytime we run the game. |

Try my new set INEPTT – they are great for playing zombie apocalypse type games. I have four types of zombies in the game – walkers, spitters, ravers and soldiers – plus zombie dogs. The Zombies are only one piece of the whole INEPTT program but they work really well and we have played games with somewhere around 24 survivors and over 200 zombies (in waves of course, so more like 300 or more came on the board during the game). The link is my spotlight on Lulu so includes my other set of rules but you will see both the print and pdf versions of INEPTT there. lulu.com/spotlight/GWSHII |
