On Saturday night I played a small "Two figures apiece" game of Battle-Troll in the bar at Fall In. Mark Ryan played, and reviews it in his regular PDF mailing "This Week in Wargaming."
" --- an excellent game for playing with Vikings in the Icelandic Sagas. I managed to get a play in with Howard and two other friends. It was a short duel, four on four. In a pub. And it generated a believe-able and fun result. All sorts of craziness went on with name calling, death blows and the like. And the game was great, too.
One play and I'm hooked. I ordered the printed version of the rules and the cards. I've been looking through my unpainted stacks looking for my Vikings. I've even cajoled an invite to one of the big games at Howard's to try the army version. In short, give the rules a try. Sadly my pictures were uninspiring. Stay tuned for a Saga

I (Howard) ran the game and joined in as Mark's sidekick against Lee Howard and Buck Surdu. It was a dead simple, move-the-beer-glasses encounter at one end of a table in the Host bar. My own observation was that, if you are already outnumbered due to some early javelin-catching on your own part, don't go for the "Jest" option as your selected attack. Oh, sure, it's great to call your opponent names if his chosen defensive move is to jump back or leap aside – "Shame" points racking up – but if he just stabs at you, your best insult is worth nothing --
