Trying to replay the Battle of Heraclea 5 times with different rulesets in November. On a 2'x2' board. This is game 3. I have replayed Heraclea with 12 or so rulesets before this over the last few years. I had a few I really wanted to try out but was getting behind so a mad dash this month. Anyway, this is using alienstar Phalanx rules. I could not find much about them on the internet so I wrote a long overview of the rules. In summary, I found them OK and gave an interesting game. The battle report is also long and in detail so you can see how the Phalanx mechanisms work Here is a image of when the battlelines are close, and before the skirmishers are stripped away:

Interesting rules by the sound of them, Shaun. I think I downloaded them many moons ago, but the formatting got all mucked up and I chucked them on a shelf somewhere. Might investigate again, but losing the Roman line so abruptly gives me pause! Cheers, Aaron |

Aaron, thanks for the link! With combat values ranging from 1 to 9 (although 9 is rare so 7 is the most likely top value), +3 as a maximum columns does seem low. Even on a +1 difference, there is a 1 in 3 chances of routing your opposing base. It is an unforgiving ruleset! |
