I hosted a game at fall in. The question arose could gen, Von Manstein make it? He maintained after the war that he could have. With new information coming out of Russia. Who knows.

so i hosted a game. The German survivors of Grossdeuthland after the second front. Remants of 5th gurds. and the beginning of the Russian reserves. Though the German tigers and panthers came up real close. The mk.III's and stugs were knocked out and most of the armored Panzer greneders. The Russians lost all their sherman tanks and most of the t-34's.

however with what was left of German forces. The answer is no. NO more German reserves available. Yet the Russians had another front to throw in.

i welcome anyone else to host the same. let me know how your outcome is.

In what battle?

From the context : 'after the second front', I'd guess immediatly after Bagration.

After Bagration there was no hope for the Germans. Manstein was a brilliant commander but you have to have the tools to do your work and after the destruction of Army Group Center the Soviets had the initiative and there was little he could have done except get a local success here and there. Had Hitler not launched the Ardennes offensive and wasted all that armor there perhaps less of Germany would have fallen into Soviet hands but the war was lost.

Well, if the war had dragged on for a meagre three month, all Manstein (or whoever) would have achieved is the first a-bomb flattening wherever he would have his headquarters (or the nearest city).

A more sensible approach to a defensive doctrine without the frequent order to stand and fight at all cost could have achieved this, and starting late 42 with it would have helped a lot in dragging out this war. I assume that Manstein referred to his 43 battles more then the later ones – after Bagration all that was left was shambling stopgaps.
