Hi Gents,

I hope this finds everyone well.

I finally finished painting up some of my wee little 5mm figures after a baby-induced hiatus the last few months.

These figures represent a 1:1 ratio of 120 rankers, including NCOs and officers, of a French Fusilier Company.

The fusiliers measure 4.7mm from toe to top of head, 1.5mm across the shoulders, and the muskets are about 4.3mm long. The rankers are cast in strips of 5 figures per base measuring roughly 8.5mm x 2mm. Scaled up 350x this gives a musket length of 1500mm/59 inches, a shoulder width of roughly 525mm/21 inches, and a height of 1645mm/5 feet 4 inches (which is the average recorded height of french infantry fusiliers at this time period).

This allows for the basing of 12 strips (60 figures) to fit easily on a 40mm x 20mm base, with room for the company captain and supernumerary ranks to be placed in their actual positions behind the ranks. A 1:1 battalion in line will measure 48cm or about 18.5 inches in total length. A good size for Brigade, and possibly Division level games at a 1:1 ratio.

This last pic I'd like to point out the rounded end of the strip on the first rank, vs the squared off end of the strip on the second rank? The strips with a corporal (note the double crossbelts on the flanking 1st rank figure vs the single crossbelt on the 2nd rank figure) have a little rounded end where the corporal is standing in order to quickly identify them when basing.

Hope you like the pics, looking forward to the next set of casts to be completed.

Thanks,
Bob

Very awesome!

You should build up around the figure bases to hide them more when finishing the unit bases. Other than that, they look great. The rounded base end is a nice idea.

Very cool!

Love it. Will look even better when you have a whole unit.

Love teh figures Inkbiz. Might you have indeed found the 'Holy Grail' of the micro miniaturist?

How long before you have Austerlitz ready at 1:1?

Can I play?

That's brilliant!

Getting to this party a little late, but wondered if you ever had any of these ultra small scale Nappies on sale?

for whatever reasons I cannot see the pictures

Hi Dave, I've spent the better part of the last 2 years (oddly this timeframe matches the age of my daughter rather well), re-working these figures. They measured to scale very well (which was my sole intent, really) but some extended use/testing showed the muskets to be a bit bendy.

I have about a half a pound of them still, and should you like I'd be happy to send you a handful free of charge, just to get an idea of what they look like.

As it stands I'm close to posting the newest iteration of these figures, with toughened up muskets and some slight changes (I reduced the projections/depths of various details because they proved to be too irksome to paint by casual gamers). I'll also be pushing out a larger scale figure as well, at 1:150.

If anyone would like to fiddle with the figures from the original posting, please send me an email at Bob.Passamenti at gmail.com.

VonW, I'll try to find a newer link for the images, the site I had put together for them has since closed, though I have the original images on PC still.

Cheers,
Bob

but them up at photobucket and then place the direct link here, it works usually fine.

Thanks for the offer – but I'll just wait until you're ready to sell the new ones!

What rules system are you chaps using for this scale?

Inkbiz17 Feb 2015 12:23 p.m. PST

Thanks VW, I'll try to re-post images later this evening when I get home from work.

Dave, they work well with formation footprints for Grand Maneuver by our own Michael Collins on TMP, just my 2 cents.
