"Forget politics. Forget history. Who knows why the Soviets invaded West Germany in 1989? Perhaps it was a bad grain harvest in the Ukraine. Perhaps they feared the U.S. would strike first. Or, maybe the Soviets simply decided—like many an empire or perhaps even a certain North American republic—that the only way to demonstrate they were not a declining superpower was by going to war. Pointless, by 89 NATO had the professional competency and technological architecture emplaced to devastate a Warpac attack. In all areas, apart from highly dubious numerical superiority ratios, the edge would have been overwhelming, and the result a foregone conclusion. 1984 is probably the latest a decent game can be constructed without some designers deux ex machina being involved. |

I agree Milites. Something like 79 – 84 is a much stronger date range for a conflict which could span some time before either side devolved to NBC solutions. Or earlier for some really dangerous stuff that would almost certainly have gone up in smoke. The game itself looks very interesting, if pricey. There are good AARs around the place. grogheads do several articles: grogheads.com/?p=2659 rock paper shotgun: link |

Wonder if command change overs take longer for NATO, as they should, or will the OODA loop always favour the good guys? |
