…Being Stupid Does.

"…Five episodes into the season – and only three more to go before the mid-season finale – and it is frankly amazing how little has happened, and how little it means. Aside from Carol driving off into the sunset (and possibly the Walking Dead spin-off) almost nothing of narrative value has taken place, besides the arrival – and by the end of this episode, seeming cure — of a disease that is somehow only fatal to people whose names we barely know.

Nor has the forward momentum been sacrificed in the name of character development; aside from Carl and the now-exiled Carol, we've seen very little change in our perpetually miserable crew of survivors. Unlike the comic book series, which moved on to greener pastures after the Governor's siege on the prison, we have returned yet again to the West Georgia Correctional Facility to watch established characters deal with well-established problems in what could barely be called new ways. It's like the show has progressed to the next level of its video game, where the same enemies with the same abilities attack you in slightly different configurations.

(Actually, that's a pretty unfair comparison, given that the excellent Walking Dead video game has a far more compelling and engaging story than the show — one where conflicts and death occur because people make tough choices that have no right answers, not because they continually make unsympathetically stupid decisions.)…"

I agree, this one was the most stupid chapter of the whole serie.
With month of hard experience in surviving a zombi apoc, how they still made such silly decisions.?

I have to say series 1, 3 and 4 have been good, 2 was the endless monotony but this series has more than enough to keep you interested. There is only so much you can do with an apocalypse scenario and if they were fastidious in their protection it would be like watching paint dry every horror film needs the silly errors, emotions over sense

If you take M.A.S.H. as an exmaple, fantastic series based on character development in what was a stagnant set of a hospital, weith it being a comedy the interaction of the characters was much more a case of necessity whereas we want gruesome arse kicking and near death (actual death or undeath) experiences to keep our interest.

My only gripe is that although the sets are good, why does the grass never grow on peoples lawns!

Lowtardog---good point. Also, why is the gas in cars still good?

That said, I do like the show.

I would love to see a decent post-Apoc series that actually dealt with the issues caused by the loss of technological civilisation.

The Walking Dead is like the new Battlestar Galactica in that the consequences of the apocalypse only rear their head as a minor plot point and are then ignored when convenient.

I think that this is the calm before the storm. After all,it is confirmed(although suspected all along) that the governor is lurking around the perimeter…

I like the show, but…

Every idiot knows that anyone can turn zombie by falling in the shower – and our stupid crew has everyone sleep in close proximity, in a prison, leaving the cell doors open.

Say what you will about the Governor, people in his town did not die from preventable (zombie) causes.

They keep showing close ups of Rick's bandaged hand I wonder if they are setting us up for it getting cut off like in the comic book?

Boy, Wired has really been ragging on the show this season. Getting kind of tiresome. It's optional entertainment, don't watch if you don't like.

LawOfTheGun mk213 Nov 2013 10:04 a.m. PST

Sorry, but the way the know-it-all-hacks at Wired try to demolish my favorite tv show, the should go and create something that meets their high standards. Come on, you are sooooo smart, you can do better than the people at AMC! Pah, better than everyone else!
Ok, gotta go and cool down now…

Guess none of the complainers have ever, oh, forgotten to lock the back door before bedtime, or left their car door unlocked at the mall, etc. And that's under ideal circumstances.

There were definitely some lapses in judgment, but frankly, no one has good judgment when they're exhausted, underfed, and in a near-constant state of anxiety/terror.

But I'll still shout "DUDE – LOCK THE DOOR!" at the TV. :)

And yes, it's a drama, so people need to make mistakes, etc., in order for there to be drama, but even then, I think this was within the realm of believable.

Although it WAS mighty unfortunate that THREE people happened to all go zombie at the same time.

Wow, half of the people at the prison are dead, and that was the calm before the storm!

They need to get red shirts for all of the extras!

The difference in the show is EVERYONE leaves their doors unlocked ALL THE TIME.

darthfozzywig14 Nov 2013 12:18 p.m. PST

Of course not. They only leave them unlocked when it matters.
