What color do you paint the lifeboats on your world war one warships? I'm have some 1/2400 German and British cruisers. Are they the same grey as the superstructor of the ships. White, wood, or some other color? |

Same color as the ship on outside. Gray or dull wood inside. |

Being a bit picky here. Technically they are not lifeboats but ships boats. A lifeboat is for saving life at sea and most of the larger boats, such as launches, cutters and pinnaces, carried aboard require a crane or derrick to launch so would take too long in an emergency situation. However nearly all ships carried one or more whalers (whaleboats in US parlance) in davits which enables them to be launched quickly, even while the ship was still moving slowly ahead. As for colour many WW1 ships still painted their boats in colours other than grey. Just a few pointers: boats were usually had canvas cover in to keep the weather out except when being used so the upper surface would be off-white or grey. In the Royal Navy green was reserved for CinC's boats so would very rarely be seen. |
