Have played SAGA many times with my gaming brothers.
Got to wondering if any one has used the figs and rules for battles on the high sea. Cogs and long ships and the sort?

Did not think you liked naval?

I played a wonderful Saga Longship battle at recruits in September. The Man who runs the con put it on based on some rules he pick up at Historicon

Should work fine, especially when considering the ideal naval battle during the dark ages was to essentially tie and many ships together as possible and create what amounts to a floating battlefield of difficult terrain.

Would be fun I would think!

Did it at Historicon in July. Need to have large ships or put around 3 points on a ship otherwise it is too crowded.
I had ships move 3" with a SAGA die discarded

How funny! my buddy and I ran a Saga demo this morning at Millenium Con and were just talking about next year and doing a big Saga battle on boats! If anyone has stuff they did and it worked and would like to share I would be most appreciative.

I will use the Vikings (cry havoc series) rules for sea movement.

I'm this era it would basically just be a board with specialized terrain and maybe the most rudimentary ship movement rules

Hi,

that's a great idea, and one I have been thinking about for some time..
At CRISIS, I discovered some great Norman ships by Warbases:
war-bases.co.uk/BOATS
Unfortunately, I play in 15mm, so they won't work (Peter Pig however does a nice Viking ship in 15mm).
Guy Bowers published some simple rules for medieval naval combat in issue 56 of Wargames Soldiers and Strategy, which are online (http://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/cms/karwansaray/ws-s/about/readmore-wss/119-issue-56-ramming-speed-custom-naval-rules.html).

Cheers,
Shandy

Could you not just play the rules as-is and just treat the boats as movement trays for the units?
