Hi, after much debating I have decided to change from 28mm Vietnam to 20mm Vietnam because of a conversation I had at a show this year. So my question is, what companies do 20mm Vietnam? I have seen the Britannia and platoon 20 ranges and I liked the look of them. Just wondered if there were any others companies.
thanks

Liberation Miniatures has some good looking minis in this scale, as does Sgt. Major Miniatures.

20mm is the best call if you want lots of vehicles. Pretty much every military vehicle of every period is available in a 1/72 kit.

Also WarTime Miniatures in Australia.

They are also sold by Elheim in Britain. Elheim also makes its own Vietnam figures.

You might also want to explore Fields of Fire Reloaded, a great website devoted to Vietnam wargaming. Lots of interesting stuff in the old posts.

SHQ did Vietnam in 20mm.
Not sure if they are still making them but I believe they are.

They are! I have primarily Britannia, which are a bit cartoony but have a great selection of pretty much anything else you might want. Platoon 20 match them size and girth-wise almost exactly. Liberation's models are a bit smaller and slighter but are quite nice as well. I have no problems mixing them.

I don't have Elheim's Nam figures, but all the WW II stuff I have from him is beautifully sculpted and crisply cast. SHQ are probably smaller than the others (if their WW II models are any indication) but are really fine sculpts.

I have no Wartime but they sure look nice and I am planning on buying at least a squad of their WW II Brits.

All my vehicles are Britannia and I love them.

I'm using the SHQ figures in a commission for crewed up M113's and they are really quite impressive, slender anatomically correct style, I would say in line with Elhiem.

I have the Britannia range and although a tad chunky they paint up very nicely, the vehicles are excellent and good value too. Intend to use Liberation figures for the ARVN 'cos they are slightly smaller and also designed as 'small frame' figures- just right for the noticeably slighter Vietnamese troops in Western kit.
Several plastic kit options for vehicles about too, M113's etc

Frontline Wargaming and Britannia also do very nice fire base scenery and village huts………and there is the venerable Airfix jungle outpost for conversion or as a river bank hut…….and river craft too…….

I use SHQ air crew figures because they fit in the helicopters so well. This is a matter of opinion, but I think their US infantry is too small to mix with the other 20mm figures as US infantry.

Elheim makes excellent 20mm ARVN and Mike Force or CIDG figures as well as SOG teams. However, before the Elhiem SOG figures came out, I used the SHQ US Special Forces figures for indigenous SOG figures with the larger Britannia Special Forces figures for the U.S. members of the SOG team. Nice size variation that looks right for the unit.

I agree that the Britannia vehicles are superb.

that is rather timely, we have just finished the moulds for the m42 duster a/a tank.
we also make loads of the other main vehicles as well all in 20mm scale:-
sandsmodelsshop.com
we will also consider making those vehicles not made by others.
we do not make any infantry though we leave that to others but we do make jeep and other crew figs.
thanks

M42 Duster? Excellent news!

Chazw110 Nov 2013 8:04 a.m. PST

Thanks everybody. I think Britannia seems ideal. I like their terrain as well. Not to mention their vehicles. And a M42 Duster, please don't tempt me! Thanks again

We need a 1/72nd scale Ontos. I have one in 1/76, but I figure as soon as I put it together, one in 1/72nd will come out.

I was wanting one for 28mm but could not find one. So I better be able to find one for 20mm!!

nazrat10 Nov 2013 8:51 a.m. PST

I have an Ontos from Liberation and it's quite nice, but last I checked it was still out of production.

Chazw110 Nov 2013 11:48 a.m. PST

That's a shame. Might have to look at plastic kits

mashrewba09 May 2015 7:17 a.m. PST

I've just bought a load of Liberation ARVN -some of the best 20mm figs I've seen and the weapons are very robust!!
