I am looking for a thatched hut already painted. What companies make these?

By the way, what is the appropriate color for a thatched roof?

If its been up for a while it will bleach to a light grey. Then every few years it will need repairing which is usually done by just putting on a new layer of thatch so it mostly goes back to a grey/beige. Then if its at the end of its life and being seriously neglected it can start to get small plants growing out of it so pale grey over darker grey with green spots. If its a sod roof instead of reed or straw then it would start soil coloured with large grassy patches rapidly giving way to all grass.

Pegasus make one. What size or scale?

I collected some pics of actual roofs, for colour inspiration.

All the thatched roofs around here are grey. I have seen buildings have new roofs and they don't stay beige for very long!

The smoke and the rain turns the thatch a very dark grey/brown pretty quickly…

Oh and if the thatch isn't great quality you get moss on them pretty quickly too…

Dark grey.

Yeah, there is this sort of misconception of yellowish tan, which might be the case for the first week when the thatch is fresh, but it is vegetation, and will be grayish is no time.

Doing my dark age long houses, I used a muddy, greyish tan and quite pleased with the look, but it is not all that pleasant to the eye.

Welcome to the dark ages, I guess. =)

Here in East Anglia the yellowish tan lasts for years, turning to a light brown. Must be the low rainfall and the pure air !

I posted some pics on TMP some time ago – including pics of an old village in Brittany:

As someone who is going to paint thatched roofs this weekend, thanks for this.
