Dear All,

picture

At the Hall of Heroes on Sunday we had, for once, a small game of Napoleonics – featuring the village of Tellnitz from the Battle of Austerlitz 1805. It was just a quick and intimate game to take advantage of the fact that a mate, posted away by the Army, was back in the neighbourhood. But as well as a social catch-up, a great little game too!

Sparker,

Several greats grandfather; I am not that old:(.

I do like the size of the Austrian battalions; my own 6mm Austrians form up in 48 and 60 figure units, but to have the unit sizes that you do in 28mm is truly impressive.

Nice looking game but I really liked that village

Fantastic set up Sparker – beautiful figures whether they be masquerading Saxons as Austrians. Love the buildings too – whose make are they and do they come ready painted?

Thanks for all your kind comments. Unfortunately for me and my local buddies only one of those large Austrian regiments was mine, the Wurzburg, beautfully painted by Fon's crew at Mabuhay Painting Services. The rest are all Troys, and headed back to Melbourne :-(

Yes the building are prepaints (just as well given my skills) – and from Conflix miniatures. Not to expensive, either….

Hello Sparker,

Wonderful gaming table, superb miniatures and a great set of special rules I shall be using.

Were any modifiers in place to represent the training of the French in the early years? I am trying to come up with some house rules that best reflect the early French after being in channel camps for so long.

Thanks for sharing.

Kurt.

The scenario was created in a hurry so I did not use many of the special rules from the main rulebook and was not really thinking about the early war differences. Just the usual selection (marauders, skirmishers, etc.). The Austrian commander was given low decisiveness ( re-roll command roll if result is three moves).

I spent most of the time working up the variant rules for village fighting. I have found that the main rules effectively discourage this type of fighting. It is too hard to displace the occupants.

In summary, the rules were as follows:

Defenders have +2 morale save vs shooting and +1 vs. hand-to-hand.
Defenders receive +d3 (rather than +3) on combat result and cannot be supported.
Defenders CAN be forced to retire rather than only being displaced by being broken.
Defenders split shooting and hand-to-hand attacks evenly amongst attackers (with max. 50% in any one direction).
If block includes a battery, then it must be facing one direction. It takes no part in hand-to-hand, but can issue closing fire. If supporting infantry retires or breaks then battery is lost.
If the defender retires or breaks then one attacker can make a free move to occupy the village block (but only if not disordered).

These rules seemed to work ok, with one block changing hands a couple of times through the game.
