Started building my first Hirst Arts Dungeon!

I am using Hydrostone (Dave B and I are sharing expenses on the project so we are using a 50lb Bag!)

It's actually MUCH easier than I expected. Using a 3 parts Hydrostone to 1 part water mix you end up with the consistency of a thin pancake batter which does a great job even with the ultra thin mold pieces.

Using 4oz of water and 12 oz of Hydrostone gives me enough to fill 4 molds fully, which is perfect.

I just ordered another Floor tile set (Field Stone) and an extra Wall mold. The wall casting is really where you need the extra set.

Bruce at Hirst Arts is really the man! He has tons of instructional videos up and he shipped my order the day he got it.

That looks fantastic! Good work, can't wait to see what comes next.

Nice work. I love fiddling with the HA molds. We just need to make the time to actually fiddle with them.

I am ending up with a 35 minute turnaround time for 4 molds from mixing the plaster to shucking the pieces. With a 5 minute cleanup it averages 10 minutes per mold in toto.

Ditto – I have half a dozen moulds that I've never really properly done much with – really must sort that some time.

Also, I am using Gorilla Glue to join it together, which is a bit tricky, since it expands. The Bond it makes, however, is Phenomenal!

Looks like a really great start!

I really don't have the time and patience to do all that casting in my hobby time. I do enough casting in front of a spincaster for work…

Thanks! My goal is to be able to have a finished 4 foot by 6 Foot Modular dungeon for next year's Millennium Con in November (that gives me a year to cast and paint).

Bruce is a great guy. I've got loads of his molds

Only Warlock,

Are you running anything this year at Millennium Con?

Also, I was wondering: Where did you buy the hydrostone from please?

Hey Patrick! I am running two Battlestar Galactica based games using Starmada Fleet Ops. Nothing as over the top as I usually do. Saturday Morning and Afternoon. Dave found the Hydrostone and picked it up.

So did you use the general scheme shown on the HA website for the modular inn? Or roll your own plan?

On and off topic here:
I definitely like what you have done so far with the dungeon. You've about convinced me to start using the Hirst Arts molds myself.

How tall are the walls and do you foresee any issues with 'dynamically posed' miniatures? I'm seriously considering Mold #88 (Stone Arch Wall Mold) as the walls are only 3/4" tall and easier for those funky poses to fit on/around/over.

I'll bring my "dungeon in a box" to show you on Saturday afternoon. I'm already registered and that's one of the games I signed up for. :)

Super! The walls are 1/2" per layer. I did some research and decided to do 3 wall layers as a standard, with the walls laid down next to the floor tiles. the other option would be to double the Floor tile width to 4 and set the walls on top, which would make them higher, but would require twice the floor tiles.

If I had a lot of "Heroically posed" figs I might consider doing the 1 1/2" tiles, but the 1" floor tiles are good for me.
