So, the majority of the figures I use for my regular AD&D 2e game are of the 'official' figures/size, which I think is 25mm. These seem to be datestamped from 1987 and after. However, I have some 25mm figs that are smaller, still from Ral Partha, but seem to be in the 1979-82 era. Also strangely, Partha's 11-418 Drow seem to be in this scale. I think the difference between 25mm and 25mm heroic is what I'm describing (as opposed to 25 vs 28mm) but I'm not sure. 28mm is definitely a lot bigger than the larger of these two scales. I know that's kind of a wierd way of describing size, but I am looking for manufacturers that still make the larger of the two 25mm sizes. Some of the other companies who make figures in the larger but still 25mm size are: Grenadier/Mirliton (These are mostly the correct size, but I have a few in the smaller scale) Mega Minis (mostly out of business now) Do any of you have more suggestions where I can get figs in the larger 25mm size for my games? I looked at some places like Old Glory who had some neat sculpts, and wasn't clear on exactly how big they are. |

What are you looking for? Humans, elves, dwarves, humanoids, monsters? The ones you like, are they the 11- series official AD&D minis from RP? |

I've had trouble finding monsters in some cases, like hobgoblins. Yes, they are the 11-xxx series. A good example would be the Menzoberranzan box set, or any of the 'adventurer' pairs. To clarify, I just measured a monk and a thief mini from Ral Partha, both 1982. They are 22mm toe to eye. Measuring the same on the Menzoberranzan minis, I get 25mm in most straight-standing poses. Looking for the latter. |

Otherworld Miniatures, without a doubt the best retro AD&D stuff going – the adventurer packs are absolutely stunning and the monsters and pig faced orcs are a joy – nostalgia as it should be |

Zippee did you read what I said about scale? Otherworld is 28mm. |

Otherworld Miniatures are quite large though. The orc I have in my hand is 28mm from bottom of foot to the eyeball. Others are as tall as 32mm from bottom of foot to eyeball. |

Mega Minis were the old Hobby Products minis, so you could search for those on Ebay. Armorcast sells the old Lance & Laser miniatures. Most of those should fit your "25mm heroic" criterion, because they were sculpted around the same time as the RP AD&D minis: link Black Tree Designs (ex-Harlequin) date from that time (originally) and should also fit well: link Unfortunately, there are some 28mms scattered in among the heroic 25mms, so you might find a clinker or two in each range. There are literally dozens of other miniature companies that were producing at that time, some of which are still active. You could check the Lost Minis Wiki ( link ) for more ideas, as well as photos of thousands of minis. |

Possibly some of the Thunderbolt Mountain figures? link Center Stage link I would have thought that you could pick up monsters from any range, after all how big is such and such a critter? |

The earlier versions of AD&D list monster sizes/heights/lengths, in their respective Monster Manual (MM) books. Since the OP is looking for accurate sizes, it does matter. Years ago, I calculated a size table, for 25mm figures. I still use it today, to locate 'monster' figures which are close to the size specified within the appropriate MM book: I look up their height/length, and then I consult my table, to figure out how big/tall/long the figures should be. I used it to figure out sizes for Giants, for my games. Here is a link with some comparative photo's of my different Giant types. It really shows the differences in the Giant races, much more clearly than just numbers on a page in the MM book! On a similar note, check out this comparison of Dragon figures, and toys, used for gaming. The MM books give different sizes for Dragons, according to their age category, so different models could be used for different ages of Worms. Cheers! |
