Here's a battle report from a game I played with a friend of mine a couple weeks ago.

1500 points, my Evil army of Men and Undead vs his unholy alliance of Dark Elves and The Rising Sun Empire.

Really reminded me of why I like this game. It's fast and tactical at the same time. The various abstractions the game uses don't make the game feel any less tactical, rather, it really makes it seem that you are rewarded for in-game decisions more than pre-game list-making. A couple members of the club are trying their hand at making KoW armies so I hope to be playing this game alot more in the future.

A few pics to give you an idea of what's in the full writeup.

That looks neat. Where's the big monster from with the multiple snake-like heads?

Can you use any figures with Kings of War? I've browsed the Mantic range, but not much beyond that.

Agreed these look neat. Also curious about the cool hydra.

Chris Walkley, you can use any models you want for KoW. The rules and army lists are available for free download and you can try them/use them in full with your WHFB or other fantasy stuff.

No models are removed until a unit completely dies. That means you can use a movement tray wit, say, 20 men worth of space and then do a scenic display with fewer models as your unit. I have undead units that are only 15 or so models (some coming out of the ground) for example.

Chris Walkley,
It's a Hydra from the Confrontation range.

As for which figures, like any game you can use whatever figures you want. There aren't many official Mantic events in the USA, but some folks have reported being allowed to use any miniatures you want, at the very least I know you're allowed to use any brand of minis for the "Kingdom's of Man" army list.

The 8 or so army lists that presently exist cover (or the stats nicely represent) nearly any fantasy model, and the allies rules make it fairly easy to combine lists to accommodate unit combinations that aren't in one army list.

Looks great. What are the Samurai figures?

Thanks for the information, I'll be sure to check it out. Wasn't sure if the rules were still free!

Oh yeah. Hydra. Not "big monster with multiple snake-like heads". I was tired, my vocabulary failed me. Haha.

Great looking game and good report . I liked how you combined several lists to make your armies . My mate and I usually do 3000 pt games and its very rewarding with the fast play of KOW . I've never taken an allied list but I might try it soon to get some ideas for my next WHFB army to be converted to KOW

thanks , cheers Tom

Xintao,
I think most or all of them are from the "Clan War" game.

Chris,
No shame. I wasn't even sure if that's what confrontation called it until I double-checked.

Thabear,
Thanks. We didn't intend originally to combine lists, but playing with what we had, it just turned out that way. How long does a 3000 point game take you folks?

thabear23 Oct 2013 2:50 p.m. PST

3000 pts would go for a good part of an afternoon with a few drinks breaks in there. We are both keen KOW players so both able to help each other out while playing. From memory we've gone beyond 4000 pts once or twice , of course we've used three tables put together so we can fit everything on. The big games get everyones attention ( mostly WHFB players looking on in disbelief that GW figures can be used for other games ) and the fast play gets good results quickly .
I usually play Undead ( but prefer my Orcs ), not my favourite choice but I had them lying around ready and painted to play. So being able to concentrate on one army list for stats and rules makes it easier rather than flipping pages in the book although a printed army list would save that time also .
Some fan made alternative lists on their website are also showing allot of promise. I'm liking the Beastmen and Chaos Warriors allied to each other and including Kingdom of Men , cheers Tom
