This is my heavily converted version of the Nadezhda Durova limited edition miniature that you get with the Requiem Kickstarter for Empire of the Dead. I wanted a more dynamic and combat ready pose, a slightly smaller pistol and I also wanted the hair to be closer to what it looks like on the artwork. So there was some chopping, greenstuffing and a weapon swap (from the EotD weapon sprue).

This is probably the first time I've made such extensive conversion work on a metal miniature, and I'm pretty pleased with both the conversion and the paintjob. I painted the model to match the artwork since I liked the colors.

More pictures of the painted model, and some WIP's over at my blog:

Nice! If that's a smaller pistol than she started with, I'm almost afraid to see the original. It's gotta be HUGE, since the one she has looks like a Howdah Pistol (sawn-off shotgun)

Great work! Being partial to Lacepunk,I feel that with a different pistol she would become a great 18th C. Hussarette.

@Lion in the Stars, the original pistol was HUGE! You can see it on the artwork picture/original mini picture over at my blog. Gave her a "heavy pistol" so that she can kick some butt :-)

That's not a revolver, that's a signal gun!

Some complained about the 'misuse of the name and disrespect of the memory of a striking historical character -the Russian 'Cavalry Maiden' of Borodino fame- for a fantasy character in a silly dress and hairdo.'

Understandable reaction. Yet, had an explicit reference and a link to a biography be provided, it could had be taken as a homage and a way to have a largely ignored character better known / popularized en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durova

For instance, *under the same conditions*, if for Victorian Gothic Horror / Victorian Science Fiction games such as 'Empire of the Dead' and 'In Her Majesty's Name' where players can field 'companies' of 'displaced' historical inspiration -from the Fenians to the Thule-Gesellschaft- I'd not mind if manufacturers made (good!) miniatures of Louise Michel link and the women who fought during the siege of Paris by Thiers, the Versailles Butcher.

Well said! I'd found the wiki entry, and became fascinated. Only wish I'd beat you to posting it. ;->=

I originally thought the name was a corruption of the Russian for 'bless you'. That there was an actual character with such an impressive story blew me away.

I think suggestions for figures already in production would be a good way to start. Can anyone point me to Kanaks?

On the other hand, if the miniature is used in a 18th C. setting with a very simple conversion (mostly removing the hammer) you could claim it to be a handgun version of the Puckle gun. A typical 'Lace Wars Sci-Fi' weapon, perfect to play e.g. 'Empire of the Dead' or 'In Her Majecty Name' by the time of the WAS / SYW. The period is full of possibilities
