I am sure the radiation symbol is available online. What about printing them on paper after sizing them, then glue in place? You could print them on decal paper if you want to go that rought. Still, I like what you did there…the Pripyat sign is great.

Very nice.

Do tell……..Are you wargaming in the STALKER universe? The Pripyat sign suggests that you may be.

I'm starting that as well. Would be interested in seeing what you are doing.

This scenery including that Russian sign is brilliant, great stuff.

StarfuryXL520 Oct 2013 3:25 p.m. PST

I'm sure you could find one without a watermark, too.

Redroom20 Oct 2013 3:27 p.m. PST

very nice work

Just pasted this link on your blog, but thought worth sharing here too – if you are looking for Soviet era monuments they don't come crazier that this lot…some may be a bit tricky to model but worth a look – they are from Yugoslavia. Certainly good for inspiration, if not direct copying.

Sloppypainter: that will be something I'll have to learn first, but it looks like the only way forward.

Kropotkin: I've been slowly working towards that goal in 20mm, building stuff, converting models etc for it, but have decided to switch to 15mm as there is a lot more available for it. Not that I will abandon 20mm, the focus has just changed.

Mishima: Thx!

Next: off to plunder CP Models and Khurasan for models, and find a decent 15mm T-34 tank to monument-ise

Thanks for that link, Mishama. They are lovely designs.

Gunbird, I also think that Pripyat sign is great! I visited a Soviet war memorial in Tallinn, Estonia, a few years ago. It's a striking design, like something out of Halo, but not too complicated to make. What I find interesting about it is that it's not just a needle but a plaza running between two sets of tiered seating. It's pretty large so, as a terrain piece, it would provide a multi-level area to fight around and inside. You can see many images of it on Google:

These two give a sense of the overall layout:

I hope that helps.

If you print it at the same size as the ones in the OP's picture you will hardly notice the waermark! If you're that bothered it is easy enough to edit it out.

Now, a word of warning:

I am rather sure that labeling things with a radiation symbol falsely may be a violation of law.

But real signs for radioactive contamination, materials, or fields are yellow with a magenta trefoil.

Here is one with red to skirt the law:

The Black on Yellow was originally for radiation producing equipment, microwaves, radar, X-Ray tubes etc.

And for protection:
(The black on yellow was for shelters).

You can get a variety of warning signage (including radioactive) and keep out stuff right here:
