I really like the look of the GB Huns, but am not sure of their relative size as 28mm--are they smaller 28s, heroic 28s, how are they relative to other ranges (I have GB plastic and metal Dark age figures).

Also, if I wanted to use them for Warhammer I would need to upsize the horses for sure--GB horses aren't big and the Huns are on ponies it seems. Advice on horses to go after to work better with the monster GW horses?

They are indeed quite nice. The figures themselves are on the big side of 28mm. Bigger than the plastic GB Dark Age warriors.

Use the GB horses. The GW one's are too big to be realistic. The Huns used the shorter Steppe ponies when compared to western breeds.

I have seen some really nice 'Historical' armies converted and used in WHFB. In particular, Imperial Romans for Empire State Troops, and Medieval French for Bretonnians.

I think Kurgans would be a great theme and would really add some character to an army. As the price of GW models continues to rise (sky rocket), I would think options such as this will see more and more use on the gaming table, with the added bonus of being usable for ancient games.

Do they have a Kurgan list now?

There isn't actually a 'Kurgan' list as far as I know, but there are several fan produced army lists for various Chaos Tribes that are usable in some tournaments/clubs.

The use of Kurgans as generic Chaos Marauders seems to be the most common theme that would apply. But after looking at the new Chaos Dwarf list, with some work, you could do a very convincing army with Kurgans counting as Hobgoblins and some form of heavy infantry being 'counts as' for the Chaos Dwarves.

Any way you slice it, it should be fun.

I have a historical Hun army that I use for Chaos Hung Marauders (these are the Eastern man- tribes rather than the Kurgan). The horses ate under- sized, but since they're consistent throughout the whole army, it looks fine. It looks like they're riding the "steppe ponies" mentioned earlier in this thread.
