"I'm happy to show you the first results of a new range we had been silently working out for a long since. What you see in the attached captions is the very first model of our new range devoted to Spanish Civil War fighting aircraft, that will be developed at 1/100th and 1/144th scales alongside.

Yes, legendary Polikarpov I-15 "Chato" is ready for lording Spain's skies again!"

That is tremendous news. You have a knack of knowing exactly what is needed. Also these are very clean and nice looking kits.

I shall probably go for 1/144 since I have a few die cast bombers already, but having a choice is great.

Accompanying decals would be just perfection.

Congratulations

John

BEAUTIFUL!! thumbs up

Lluís, do you have an idea of which aircraft you want to depict, specifically in 1/100 scale? I'm guessing that the majority of them will be fighters, ground attack, and possibly reconnaissance aircraft.

It might be time for you to offer him a job with your company, Lluís. wink

An ideal hire for spotting and counter-spionnage duties, certainly evil grin

I'd love to produce some of the most common SCW aeroplanes, taking care not to duplicate subjects already worked by other manufacturers with a similar pattern of quality.

Likely candidates are Henschel Hs-123 and Grumman G-23 (ground attack), Nieuport-Delage NiD-52 and Breguet XIX (early war aircraft), or the beautiful Hawker Fury. Just for listing a few.

How about a I-15bis or didn't any go to Spain ?

jpattern213 Oct 2013 10:04 a.m. PST

Very nice!

You have the two I would most want in your first release. From a wargames point of view ground attack aircraft are the most useful but only by a narrow margin.

I would say Breguet and Nieuport for the next release in order to get the early air force represented. Then the Condor legion Henschel.

But you really cant go wrong, so many beautiful aircraft to choose from.

Hi Black Bull,

There were I-15bis in Spain indeed --but at so small numbers and so late that didn't play any significant role.

It shouldn't be discarded though, for its non-negligible role at Winter War or Sino-Japanese war…

…hasn't Battlefront already released it, BTW? Or was it an I-153?

It's the I-153 "Chaika", Lluís.

Likely candidates are Henschel Hs-123 and Grumman G-23 (ground attack), Nieuport-Delage NiD-52 and Breguet XIX (early war aircraft), or the beautiful Hawker Fury. Just for listing a few.

GREAT choices! thumbs up

I'm so glad that you're making these in 1/100!

Patrice15 Oct 2013 4:32 p.m. PST

Very interesting.

Since some time I think that such small aircraft (1/100 or 1/144 or whatever I'm not sure yet) would be good for air forces above 28mm battlefields. We don't really need 28mm aircraft as long as they are in the sky above the gaming table they can look smaller (and so they can really be small).

Leland,

Nice gun indeed. I've browsed a bit around to find some info on it, and have read that around 30 of them were used in SCW --mainly in Central and Northern Spain.

Hum… having so a long barrel, it won't be that easy to bring it into resin, though --unless barrel itself is cast in metal, along with something for counter-weighting it, don't you believe?

Well, we perhaps might include it in our public wishlist.

For 28mm gamers:

It's likely that we decide in the end to produce these aircraft at 1:72nd too.

However, market is literally plenty of modelism 1:72nd aircraft kits --and this keeps us a bit doubtful.

Just for case, both I-15 and CR.32 are already being re-scaled right now, so that whenever a decision is taken we'll have their 3D-printed prototypes ready!

Cheers,
Lluís

BlackWidowPilot Fezian16 Oct 2013 2:54 p.m. PST

Lluis,

about that Fiat CR 32 in 1/72 scale: to the best of my knowledge there's only one (1) plastic kit of this important SCW aircraft available, the old SuperModel kit which has the very worst set of interplane struts I've ever encountered in an injection moulded plastic model kit! GAH!

As a wargamer, I am always on the look out for subjects that don't take me half a year to build. Right now I have a Nieuport Delage NiD-522 and a Polikarpox R-5 in Republican colors, and some unbuilt kits of the SM 81, the Potez 540, and some I-15s, but, I personally need some air support for my Nationalists, and a fast build CR-32 would be a great addition, as frankly I'd want to build several not just for the SCW, but for the Chinese KMT Air Force, and the Regia Aeronautic for the Ethiopian invasion and later as ground attack aircraft during the British invasion of Italian-occupied Abyssinia.

Like the I-15/I-15bis/I-153, the CR 32 got around quite a bit more than many appreciate, and it was used both as a fighter aircraft, and IIRC as a ground attack aircraft, so if the kit included some underwing anti-personnel bombs, that would be a real bonus!

As for that McLean gun, perhaps you could render the entire gun in white metal, and the rest in plastic/resin?

I-15 and CR.32 designs already re-scaled into 1/72nd!!

(Don't ask me when shall we release it, though; too soon for knowing yet. We must taste their respective 1/100th version degree of success first)

As for the "maklen" gun, I definitely like it --so that will see what we can do for enforcing it into the pipeline.
