Hello all: I am looking for some players in the State College area of PA. I have one friend that I play with each week but we are looking for another few people to play. See ya, Skip |

Would you like to make a 2-1/2 hour drive on Sundays? |
David of NorthCentral PA | 07 Oct 2013 8:10 a.m. PST |
I am north of you in the Mansfield area. I'm interested but have not gotten past priming some Germans and Americans and I'm a novice to the rules. I've only played once. I usually play Ancients, or Renaissance. |

I can't seem to email you guys; I am not sure what the deal is. I started a web based meeting group for Central PA Historical Gamers. Go to this link; sign up and start posting. We are playing at my place once or twice a week and going to Harrisburg and playing with a group down there once a month. I will gladly haul anyone along to Hbg if they show up at my place (just outside of State College on the Huntingdon side). We are playing at my place on one nice terrain table. I have room for up to five or six tables and will gladly build them if people come. I am hoping that the web group draws some advertisement and things can progress. Don't worry about unpainted or not having an army to start. We can help out and get things going. I have been playing since June, my friend for about 12 years so we have the knowledge base covered. 2.5 hours is a bit much; I hate driving the 1.5 to Harrisburg but tell me more on the website and I will consider it. If more people want to go and we can do a group trip it is a possibility. Website: link See ya, Skip |

Fallschirmjäger (Fallschirmjager or Fallschirmjaeger in English) is the German word for paratroopers. They played an important role during World War II, when, together with the Gebirgsjäger they were perceived as the elite infantry units of the German Wehrmacht. After World War II, they were reconstituted as parts of postwar armed forces of both West and East Germany, mainly as special ops troops. |

There used to be a really good wargames club at Penn State (I founded it 38 years ago). Have you checked there? |
Skip2a | 17 Oct 2013 5:45 a.m. PST |
The PSU club seems to be gone. I found their website but it hasn't been updated in years and it is broken. I tried to contact the admin but do not get any response. Being full time staff I would gladly run/organize this for the Campus but there is nobody to contact about it. |

Well that's sad :( At its height the PSU wargamers (30 or 40 of us) would take over two rooms in the Electrical Engineering East building and play games all weekend. We had some massive 15mm Napoleonics games with 10,000+ figures. And, of course we played D&D pretty much non-stop, it being brand new during the time I was there. That brought in a horde of junior high school kids from the town (we dubbed them 'munchkins' and that is, in fact, where the term for young gamers originated. I can't prove it, but it's true.) Many of those munchkins later became avid historical gamers. Maybe you should try and rebuild the club! :) |

I have no idea where to start as far as a contact person for clubs at PSU. I also do not know how to reserve rooms for use. I have searched the PSU site but can not find anything about starting clubs/activities. That is why I started the Meetup page that I linked above. I don't have a membership that allows me to contact you but if you have any ideas for me feel free to drop me a PM. |

I have no idea what the procedure would be now. I remember that I had to appear before some sort of student council. They clearly had no idea what I was talking about as far as wargames went, but as soon as they realized all I wanted was space and not FUNDING, they rubber stamped my application and presto, we had a club! :) |
Skip2a | 17 Oct 2013 4:05 p.m. PST |
See being staff I don't think I am able to do it. |
ScottWashburn | 17 Oct 2013 4:29 p.m. PST |
Well, you'd probably want to recruit some STUDENTS for the club. You could get one of them to do it. :) If I were you I'd check with the history department and the ROTC instructors to see if they know of any interest. You could try some impromptu meetings in some public place and if you can generate some interest move ahead with the club idea. |
PHGamer | 18 Oct 2013 5:42 a.m. PST |
Good luck with the club. I live closer to Philadelphia should you come this way, otherwise is a four hour drive each way. You can lift my address phone number off of my resume at this link: link You might convince me to come by to do a demo. I also play ancients (Warrior) |

PH: It seems that everything is south of me. I know there are groups in Hbg, Lancaster, Reading and in Phiiy. Unfortunately State College is a dead spot for FoW. There are people that play 40k and other stuff like that but none with interest in historical gaming. I started this group with the hope of finding more people: link but have not gotten very good results so far. I contacted two different people at the Military Museum in town here and neither one responded. I will try the ROTC route and also the History Dept. I would assume there would be a military history expert somewhere. |
