Hi! I've seen a LOT of posts around about how to strip models, many ending badly, or people just asking that age old question of "how do I strip paint from plastic/metal models??" Well, I've written a tutorial on my blog about my preferred method! I use fairy power spray, and I wrote about how I do it, along with some picture examples here in my blog: blog.cjsutherland.co.uk/stripping-paint-from-miniatures Hope you guys find the post useful! please feel free to drop me a comment about it! Thanks. Chris |

Tutorials on this are always useful. Getting paint off of metal is easy. I buy this really cheap oven cleaner from Walmart, put the figures in a glass jar, soak them with the stuff (while wearing a mask), and then leave them outside to air. After about 2 or 3 hours, I go outside and use a waterpick to wash them off (wearing gloves). Never failed, even when I saw a guy had put 4 layers of paint!!! Plastic though
that's the tricky one. |

Oven cleaner works for plastic as well. I used it to strip paint that had been on since the 70s! Spray the stuff on the figures, leave overnight, then use a toothbrush and running water to scrub them clean. Simples! |

See, I tried it with plastic and the figure deformed. Warped at the middle even and made the figure look like he was bowling over from being disemboweled. Now that I think of it
probably should have saved him for a casualty

A victory for Tesco's oven cleaner then! I wonder how good it is at actually cleaning ovens? |

While I have tried just about every concoction known to man to strip paint, the main result was usually wondering why I bothered. 50% of the time, the old paint just slides off. The rest of the time, no matter what I use, there is stubborn stuff that will not budge. So, I either have brand new figures that I have to paint all over again, or stuff that I am afraid to try. why not just leave things as they are and Dip them? OK, OK. I know the answer. We are cheap. |

I use Simple Green for anything with plastic, let it set for a day or two. For pure metal figs, I use 3M Safest Stripper, and it also weakens superglue. Do NOT leave the 3M product in a plastic container, and it willsoften the plastic over time. |
