I'm looking for some figures that I can turn into pseudo-boy scouts in 28mm. I've come across a few topics here on TMP discussing the (lack of) boy scout type figures, and it seems my best hope might be to get some 20mm figures that are close enough and can pass as adolescents in a 28mm game. WW2 Gurkhas and WW1 US in Montana hats seem most suited. 1:72 plastics a la Airfix / HaT I think would be too short to represent teenagers in a 28mm game (Airfix Gurkhas are 22mm tall according to Plastic Soldier Review, putting them a hair under 5' tall using a nominal 1:56 scale for 28mm). Combined with the thinness of 1:72 plastics and typical beefiness of 28mm metals, I think the plastics would be woefully tiny, even for adolescents. That leaves 20mm metals, which tend to be chunkier. I'm not aware of 20mm US WW1 figures in metal, aside from Tumbling Dice, which are 1:76 and probably certainly too small. But if anyone has them, could you let me know how tall they are (sole to top of head or hat)? Does anyone have these figures ( Stonewall Figures / Combat Miniatures WW2 Gurkhas – link ), and could you provide measurements from sole to top of head or hat? Thanks in advance. |

Perry has these, the original Boy Scouts from South Africa. However, they are in side caps not Montana hats. link Eureka's WWI Ghurkas might suit your purposes as well, as they are slight compared to most other 28mm figures: link |

I made some out of Battle Hours Gurkhas for my Dads Army setting. They are 25mm so work well used with 28mm figures. I could not use the British figures that came in the set as they looked so small. link |

Thanks for the tips, folks! The Perry figures are too static / monotonous for me. Any pics of Eureka's WW1 Gurkhas in shorts? The site doesn't have pics. Sad Sumo. (Though there are pics of Gurkhas in gaiters, which can't be too far off.) The Battle Honours Gurkhas look good, and yes if 25mm they should do nicely as older boys. I don't see any boy scout types in the Atomic Cafe line at Brigade (on a side note, what a fantastic line of figures!). |

I'm guessing that Ming31 is referring to the Mooseketeers: link which might take some converting. Doesn't Warlord do a pack of Hitler Youth? You could also collect various newsboys and Old West boy types
Oh, and Pulp has the Bowery Boys: pulpfigures.com/products/view/84 |

The Eureka Gurkhas in shorts are the same poses as the ones in gaiters, so pictures on the Eureka site are good. Here is an ancient comparison photo with the Copplestone giant Gurkhas:
and here is another which is notable only because it shows one of the Gurkhas in shorts:

Those are more modern scouting uniforms on the Reaper figs. They might pass muster on a gaming table in a pinch. |
