Looking to paint an army for a friend fairly fast.
I have to paint British Colonials, Egyptians, Ansar and Fuzzies! No experience with this era. Can someone recommend a fairly fast and decent technique? Also need help with the colors. Looking to do 1884 and 1885 range.
Thanks

JD,
Sorry, no quickie for the British and Egyptians, unless you'd want to try priming them in the base uniform color.

Any particular scale in mind? Techniques can vary …

Best bet for the colours of the uniforms is the Perry book Go Strong Into the Desert by Mike Snook. Here is a review of it

Spray paint the natives a light grey or off white, then dry brush white.

Going 15mm.

I've found that painting white quickly requires you start with white, then paint the recesses of folds. In 15mm I'd prime white, wash with a warm brown, and hit the highlights with white again. The patches you see on the ansar are now accepted as symmetrical.

If you are comfortable with a wash process, I think what Dr. Mathias suggests should work well in terms of good results done quickly. I'm not a wash guy so after primering, I paint the flesh a base color (Vallejo Brown Orange for the Brits) and everything else black. I then attack the uniform by painting it in sections. The sleeves to the shoulder seam are sections. The upper right and left front jacket panels are sections. The upper rear jacket panel is asection. The lower right and left jacket panels (below the belt) and the lower rear jacket panel is a section. Each leg is a section. Once done, highlight and detail as needed. Each section is defined by the thin black line (the black base coat) that separates each section. It's fast, and gives your 15s some nice detailed look. Kind of a reverse wash. You can see the results by looking at my Sudan Gallery at warin15mm.com/The-Sudan.html

Dr M: that would certainly work as well and should provide a decent result in not a lot of time.
