I was able to wargame for the first time with my students as part of a test review this year. It went way better than I thought it would with many of the students getting into it with enthusiasm. You can read the AAR here: link

Fairly simple scenario for the kids. Attacking vikings try to steal the sheep and gold from the defenders. Defenders need to make sure they don't reach the castle entrance. Bonus if they prevent them from getting to the farms.

The rules were a modified version of "Death Before Dishonor" by Mr. Carroccio of miniatureservicecenter.com

That is very cool of you to do that. I plan on teaching my daughters one day to game so I can have some opponents to game against.

Using wargames for teaching can be beneficial for both sides. I once had a student (I teach kids out of the school system for various reasons) who I used wargames as a hook and later as evidence for GCSE English – including pitting 2 students against each other in a DBA battle. One then wrote the battle up as part of his GCSE coursework.

Another student was interested in ships – so that gave me a bit of a push that helped revitalise a project that had been drifting for years. The 'wargaming' result was my article in Miniature Wargames, his included some models using that construction system that he may be able to use towards his Art GCSE coursework.

I will add that for several years (when I was still in the school system) I ran a wargames club in the school – which was also very rewarding!

My students looked forward to gaming in the classroom. Keep up the great work.
